Marketing Plan

As the year is on it's way to closing, I just want to give some advice for your company's marketing. We see a lot of businesses that sort of pick and choose throughout the year as to what they want to do, while having no idea how much money they really have for budget. My advice, creating your marketing plan EARLY.

You probably know the times of year that you are busiest. Go ahead and say I'm going to spend X amount of dollars this year and break it up into projects. For example:

X dollars alloted for website maintenance
X dollars alloted for postcards in the Spring
X dollars alloted for creation of e-newsletter
X dollars alloted for creation of new brochure for Fall
X dollars for exhibiting at August builder expo
etc.

And really try to work to those goals. That way there are no surprises at the end of the year. You have a set predictable schedule to work by where you already know how much you have to spend and when someone calls wanting you to advertise in something you don't really want to, you have a good excuse as to why you can't. hahah.

It really helps to get with a reputable marketing firm that can handle all of your marketing throughout the year for you. All you have to do then is give approvals and write checks. But if you want to handle it yourselves, there are a lot of free calendar and organizational programs available to help you keep to your goals. It's really amazing what you can do for marketing with a limited budget. My best to everyone!!!

Re: Marketing Plan

I hope you have done a marketing study to base the marketing plan on. The biggest mistake going by opinions and "seat of the pants" guesses. Sometime you are too close or too far away.

I have to ask the same question, and how many truck mounted machines do you run to put out that much gutter, and are you running two or more per team.

I recommend you see if you can get any news coverage or feature articles on the jobs you have done. Thsi can cost you only some of your time.

Re: Marketing Plan

Since the marketing issues have been directed to me in our company, I'm coming up with a schedule, similar to what you pointed out. I've started doing a few things already such as redoing our website, advertising in "luxury homes and condominiums" publications. Joining association/groups such as the Better Business Bureau, etc. So far I have a good idea as to what I want us to achieve, marketing wise, for next year. The only thing I need to see, is what our marketing budget will be for next year, especially in these times we all face with the economy. Anyhow, great advice. Thanks.

Re: Marketing Plan

Dont need a marketing plan in this economy, it's booming with work out there, raise your prices by 30% and just let everyone know you are the best contractor there is and you will have all the customers you can handle...........
