Maybe it depends where you are. The clients that I would want would hire a junk hauler around here.

The concept is great but dragging garbage across town for free donuts doesnt seem like it would work.
In order for it to work it would have to be in a neighborhood 1/2 mile at the most from the dumpster. We are not talking about a city wide event. target 50-100 houses at the most. Its not just to get free doughnuts.

It is so these people that I want to target dont have to drive 30-45 minutes ONE way and pay anywhere from $20-$50 to dump thier trash.

I am sure this area is ripe for this kind of marketing being that 75% of my jobs are in this area and EVERY time I have a roll off people ask if they can throw stuff away in it. Or if they can pay the differance to upgrade to the next largest size.

Re: Marketing Idea

This is so unique, it deserves media coverage. Make sure you hire a copywriter who speaks the language of media and knows how to put together a good press kit.

Great idea, let me know how it works and I may try it!

Re: Marketing Idea

Do it around the first of the year and call it a Xmas tree dump....slow time of year...trees are easier to haul......xmas cheer blah blah blah.

When my business was located in Scottsdale, I posted flyers in a neighborhood that I would pick up trees for free and include a coupon for future work...I picked up over 300 trees that year and ended up adding dozens of clients to my list....all for the price of gas, a little time during a slow time anyway......I dumped them at the city dump to be mulched....I got approval first of course to dump more than one.....

Re: Marketing Idea

I've seen this done before, well, not exactly what you are planning, but I've heard of more than one remodeling company that does something similar. What they do is send out a mailing to about 50 houses surrounding the house they are working on and tell them they are working in their neighborhood and they always have extra room in their dumpsters at the end of a job, so as a courtesy please stop by the job site before the end of the job and if you have some items you want to get rid of you will be welcome to use our dumpster.

They want people to come to the job site, they give them a tour of the jobsite and get to know them abit and the people also get to throw some crap away. It isn't an open invitation for some pack rack to empty his 3 stall garage of crap into their dumpster, most people on average just throw in a few big things they want to get rid of.

One of CT's Sponsors does this for $39.95, Check out SmartleadUSA.com I think it would work great in certain neighborhoods
