Made It Through My First Home Show...

Well, i just got home from my first home show. It was a longgg weekend. I worked it all by myself. Overall i will say it was a success. I got about 22 leads for pools that people want to meet in the next 2 weeks. I gave all these people ball park prices.

I must of given out 30 brochures to people that are planning on doing something in the next 6-18 months. Alot of people are in the process of buying a house to knock down and rebuild or planning an adition in the next 6-12 months and want to do it all at the same time.

So basically i got 22 people who want to met up and planted about 30 seeds. Another 15-20 people took brochures or cards because a pool is something they would like, but have no idea when or if they will do one.

I think i did well for my first show. My legs hurt though! I got to rest up for next weekend. I got another show with longer hours!

How far in advance are you paying for your shows? I might miss out on the next one because I called for a spot 30 days before the show and they sold out.

I booked this one like less than 2 weeks ago. This promoted has another one in 2 weeks and he said he still had a few spots open. But i can't do 3 shows in a row!

That is some long hours, doing a show by yourself. My hat is off to you, you will be running on adrenalin for a while so be prepared for low. Make the calls right away and take advantage of your excitement.
Again my hat is off to anyone who can work an entire weekend home show by themselves.

Re: Made It Through My First Home Show...

Yea it was friday 4-9, saturday 11-9, and today 11-5. Next week has longer hours!!

I told all the people i would not be able to met with them for a week. I told them all to look over the brochure and the website over the next couple days and i will contact them in a week. I am going to mail all 22 of the serious leads thank you cards tommorrow for stop in my booth. Then i will call them in a week.

I got no time for estimates this week with the next show next weekend. I explained it to all the people and they understood.

This show was 2.30 hours from home. I am trying to expand state wide. I drove down thrusday night and got in at 11.30pm. Woke up on friday and set the booth up. Tore it down at 5 tonight and drov 2.5 hours home.

I need to build the business when i am young. Cuz' i know in 10 years i will not be able to put in these types of hours!

It is the hours that make you old. Just remember to stick you head out the window to smell the roses on the way to the bank. Early retirement is not possible on a pulper income.

Rusk
Sounds like you did a good job. One thing I have alway loved about the show is talking to all the different people. It kinda helps get you pumped about your own business.

Here's the only two tips I can offer for homeshows... as they are the ones that matter:

1) Go for ones where the visitors pay an admission charge. These are serious people looking at projects for their home. The Free admissions ones are typically people looking for free pens and candy.

2) Wear comfortable shoes.

Re: Made It Through My First Home Show...

tip of the week! from your favorite hillbilly on the redneck educational hour. ok. never ballpark a price at any show. the next tells them a lower price then your quality is out the door and your price becomes a commodity. take it from a seasoned pro at the homeshows. they'll look at you stupid when they want a price and you don't give it to them but tell them you must see what kind of groung its on or in, hilly mountion creek stone you get the picture! and what will work best for them (products) and you can only determine this by going to the site and doing a quick assesment of the scope of work. only then can you and them find out whether or not they want to drive a lexuis or a vw bug. you get the picture but by qouting pricing you only give a guy like me the ammo i need to crush you on the sale. don't mean to rain on your parade just looking out for ya a little. and oh yeah by some tapes or books on closing the sale then you will close 20 out of the 20 good luck hopes this helps gotta go need to get cleaned up for the outdoor trout kicck off show today and all weekend .so when your tirerd and wore out remember there are other rednecks out there doing the same as you. so keep on keeping on.
