Looking For Some Help And New Ideas

Hello everyone,
I am kind of new to this site at least as far as really using it. I own a small Remodeling company in PA. Emmaus, PA to be precise. In my area we had the biggest influx of people over the last 10 years than any other area in the country around 18,000 new residences. But we also have more contractors than anywhere I swear. Everyone who owns a hammer is a contractor around hear. : ) my problem is I am trying to find ways to get more work (Like most contractors in this economy). I have tried many avenues of advertising i.e. flyers (5000 in the last 2 months alone = 4 calls), online lead services (1- 1,500 job out of 150 leads), Craigslist (Very little work), I am thinking of trying on a small scale telemarketing on a small scale and maybe door knocking. I wanted to know what other people are doing or maybe what type of project are hot right now so I can focus on them more. Any help would be GREAT.

Thanks,
Peter

Re: Looking For Some Help And New Ideas

I don't know if this will help. I'm doing the same things you are, CL, flyers, etc. I also do a small mailer, door knocking and have recently been hitting the networking hard. Door knocking hasnt paid off yet but we keep at it. Never been good at cold calling so I got a sub of mine who is a hell of a salesman to come on board and help find work, he'll do several cold calls a day all over TN. 6 estimates out, 2 contracts signed and hopefully more are coming soon all from cold calling. I'm trying not to spend alot of money until end of Feb. begining of Mar. and then start hitting everyone for spring. Fingers crossed for a great spring and summer this year.
Can't do much about everyone having a hammer. We have the same problem around here. We try to keep the HO focused on licenses, warranty, quality and referances. If they want the cheapest price and will compromise quality, the hacks can have them. Good Luck!

Thanks for the infor. Quick question? Where do you get your number list for the calling. I know that there is a do not call list out there so i don't want to get in trouble by calling people that would be on that list. Also do you have a standard greeting that you do when you call?

I dont call HO. I call everyone who has something to do with construction. Suppliers, subs who may know of a job to bid, other contractors who sub work, investors with rental properties, property management firms, real estate agents and past clients. Anyone who I've done business with gets a call during slow times.

Just wondering if you guys have tried sending out emails to potential clients? Has that technique had any success for anyone who's tried?

Perhaps your marketing efforts are "sending the wrong message"?... Try targeting your message to a specific group or niche. Offer something free that has "value" to your target market.

Yes, definately!... 99.999% of my marketing starts with email! - It works. Takes time, but it works!
