I think it looks ok. Usually your logo does not really matter as long as it looks ok when you scale it up for a website or down for a business card or if it looks good in black and white.

If you are willing to pay $70 bucks to design your own logo , try playing with this http://thingsbymike.com/affordable-logo-design/

Re: Logo

WARNING: I'm a logo designer so although I believe I am right, I do have a certain amount of bias.

First of all, a logo is not magic so I won't pretend like it is. A logo will not make a sale for you. It will not make you successful.

What it does do is enhance all your other efforts to succeed and provides a visual symbol so you can be easily identified by it. It only works as hard as you do. Only when enough people see it does it really do anything.

Because of what it does do, it MUST be unique. Clip art and cheap logos do more harm than good. You might spend years getting that identity symbol known in your community. Doing it quick and cheap will lead to regrets later. It will be a very important element of your business. It should be well thought out, even researched. The logo hacks that just whip on up as quickly as they can to move on to the next customer aren't concerned about your future. They're not about to take the time needed to do it right.

So even though a logo does not make you successful, it is still important to your success. I've been designing logos for nearly 30 years. In that time, I've found that the only people who don't believe a logo is important are those that don't have one, or don't have a good one. I've never yet known anyone to do it right and then regret it.

Consider that for what it's worth to you, I did at least warn you I'm biased.

PS: There's nothing unique about the white bear logo. I'm not saying that to criticize, only to be honest, and that it should not be considered a logo. You mentioned a lot of things going on right now. A logo might not be a big priority yet. When you do take the plunge, you'd be surprised what a good logo designer can do for you.

Re: Logo

So would you say it was better to go without a logo to start off with if he can not afford one ?
I think the logo itself is fine, but as you say not professionally done, is White Bear maybe the name of the city he lives in, I live in White Bear Lake and you see a lot of white bears on everything lol

That may seem like strange advice, but yes. With or without an image of a white bear, there would be other priorites in getting a business established. Look at it this way, if you send out flyers for example, the message and the offer must stand out. A great flyer without a logo will do much better than a poor flyer with a great logo.

Customers don't care about your logo, they care about how you can help them. Do that well, and you can always have a nice logo developed later that people will use to identify you with once they know you.

I like your example. If everyone in town has white bears, none of them stand out. Any one of them could probably delete the white bear from their materials with zero impact on their business.
