Intro Letters

I moved from FL about a year ago and started my business here a couple of months later. I have been thinking about writing some intro letters to a few of the builders and contractors, maybe some realators as well, here in my area. Something like a description of services, little bit about the company, etc. I was thinking it might drum up a little business, leads, and networking. What do you all think? Your input would be helpful.

Thanks nEighter. It was just a thought, times are tough for everybody. Which is why I asked the question to get feed back.

Re: Intro Letters

I wouldn't choose just one line. I have been door hanging.. I think you need to go this route. Just today I spoke with 2 different home owners (neighbors) and will be over to their house come Saturday to take pics and measure some boards that need replaced (1 a full paint + replacement, the other is going to be fun, reworking exterior to eliminate soft siding and replace a TON of verticle 1"X4"'s around the house), have 2 other estimates I need to go on Sat also. That is all from the last 5 days. Just do something, anything is better than being on the internet all day hoping something will come through.

In these times, in my area builders are gonna beat you way down. Especially if your new. Check out the marketing forum there's a lot of valuable info there. Home inspectors giving referals ???? There you go. RESEARCH you will learn a lot....................

Re: Intro Letters

Are you a lady?

Really. If you are a female, you have another route to consider -- media publicity. Non conventional occupation, and the like. Mix it with some community service and you can find your way soon enough into the local press.

GCs and commercial work can be dog-eat-dog often the bidder who doesn't know what he/she is doing wins the job, and loses (especially if you are new the space).

However the publicity can help your marketing, especially if contractors have a requirement under public sector requirements to use minority contractors etc. on their projects.

Re: Intro Letters

Research your local home builder's association and see if you can attend a meeting. Our local association usually has meetings that have a cocktail hour and they also have special outings. These are all great personal networking opportunities where you can go and personally meet many potential clients. If you go, make sure you have business cards and hope you have a website with good content for them to look up.
