Re: Instagram To Promote My Business?

My target market is high end residential outdoor projects, and I specialize in Japanese and Asian style structures.

I've been setting up a nice Houzz page
https://www.houzz.com/pro/woodsshop/woods-shop

and FB https://www.facebook.com/Woods-Shop-312527412043/

don't really know how to properly use those either and now I'm trying to get this IG thing going,

delving in to all this social media stuff I've been hearing about :-)

I find it so valuable for finding local subcontractors as well.

Wouldn't happen to be @craftsmanship_revival that you found would it? I think he's in your neck of the woods. That dude does some super clean looking tile work. Jaw dropping tight work.

Just out of curiosity, how do you (or they) get the leads? In my customer's situation, he got a submission on his website and they specifically referenced seeing him on Instagram.

But when it comes to Social Sharing on things like Facebook, my clients get communications directly from Facebook so they can clearly see when the lead came from there.

But I agree that clients like to see updates, not necessarily daily since that can be overkill, but if you have the time then great, but I would still place Facebook opportunities over Instagram if I was forced to make a choice.

And if time allows then spreading over the two mediums is good too.

Anyone can send you a message through instagram. That's how you get the lead. There also seems to be a number of contractor specific meet ups organized through IG.

You can post to your facebook page through your instagram account, so it's really no extra time outlay. I personally don't do that buy know many who do.

I find a stranger on IG, a sub, and comment on their project, "Nice work, can I hire you?" They respond, "yeah, hit me up." and it's done.

I'd agree that facebook is a better venue, it allows advertising, more people are on it, etc. It seems like more people my age are getting tired of facebook and liking the simplicity of IG.

I've encountered contractors who use stock photos on their web site. You don't even see their work. But if I see regular updates on social media I see what kind of work they are good at, do frequently, keep up to date on, etc.

Re: Instagram To Promote My Business?

Instagram is getting more and more important lately and I think you should definitely get on there. I started getting leads when I followed different businesses and professionals from my local area. I also followed their followers, and they followed back. You will be amazed when you see how many local businesses are showcasing their work on Instagram. Btw, your work is amazing, I followed you just now.

Re: Instagram To Promote My Business?

I'm very new to this, I don't understand how my biz gets exposure on IG, and not sure at all what my strategy ought to be to gain exposure. I don’t understand how it works. Do people go there like as with a search engine and enter terms?

I've been looking at my page from computer, and adding images last few days using Chrome. IG won’t install on my phone but just got it to on my tablet. When I open it on tablet and try and go look at my page, all I see is a big image from another user. How do I get to my page?

One of my tags is #japanesegazebo and I've tagged a few of my images with that. When I enter that term I go to
https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/japanesegazebo/ but my images aren't there and I see alot of non relevant images. When I use https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/asiangazebo/ I see one of my images at the top so that's good.

On IG I’m getting a lot of Likes and a few comments, how did those people find me?

How do I find other local San Diego businesses in the landscaping field to follow, who might want my structures? And Japanese Garden Designers and Builders in the whole US as I ship kits?

I do garden structures, many in an Asian style. I heard we can only have /use 20 tags, I know almost nothing about #tags, these are the ones I choose, am I on the right track?

#garden #landscape #patio #teahouse #torii #SanDiego #moongate #patiocover #zen #JapaneseGazebos #japanese #asian #gazebo #pavillion #pergola #teahouse #woodwork #carpentry #JapaneseLandscape #JapaneseGarden

Re: Instagram To Promote My Business?

Joe, I don't know a lot about hashtags, but I know that you were a recommended account in my feed... I think IG has some type of filter based on the content you search for, who you're following, etc...
The one thing I can tell you about your hashtags is that you don't need to capitalize anything except your city tag. That might lead to your results only showing up in a search using only those capitalized words.

Re: Instagram To Promote My Business?

Hhmmm, what is a 'feed'? You see how new I am to this.

Good Info on the cap tags

how about using two words? #japanesegazebo Vs #JapaneseGazebo or can you use two words, to 'narrow down' the search results?

Sorry... Your feed might not show up for you (I'm not very familiar with using the desktop site).
It shows the current and past posts made by the people you follow.

It costs nothing but time to use it so you have the time and pictures to do why not? There are probably hundreds of how to make it work for you guides out there with the usual conflicting information. If you get one job out it its worth it if your only putting in your down time into it.

Re: Instagram To Promote My Business?

I don't have huge expectations for Instagram, but there's nothing to loose, except time. There are so many social platforms that could help grow my business (LinkedIn, Facebook, Houzz, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+), but I have limited time. I think that Houzz, Instagram and Pinterest are really great for the building industry because they focus on photos. As long as you have the time, and beautiful photos to post Instagram is great. I'd rather do quality over quantity. There's no reason to post a random photo every day.

IMO it would be better to post a stunning photo every week that attracts a lot of attention, and have a gallery full of amazing projects. If you want to stay connected every day, you could use the Instagram stories feature (sort of like Snapchat), and take 5-10 photos and short clips. They disappear after 24 hours, but have more of a 'live' feel to them. I don't know if they have a lot of marketing value, but maybe if a former customer is following you, it might spark some renewed interest.

OK I think that's not a biz page but a # page for all sandiegolandscape entries. So how do I search for these actual companies?

Re: Instagram To Promote My Business?

Joe, a lot of the functionality is crippled in the web version, hard to explain some of the difficulties you're having if you haven't seen how it works on a mobile device. IG was originally only developed for mobile phones then they just sort of threw together the web interface.
What problems are you encountering trying to install it on your phone?
