Finally got a FB page. My kid showed me how to post a few photos and then left me. If the entire internet crashes it is my fault.

My brother, wife, kids, MOM, etc. all have FB pages and I have been holding out because I thought it was childish. So, let me understand this I need to get all my friends to befriend my plumbing company? Then all their friends see who their friends are and if my company is one of the friends they will call my company if they need a plumber? Oh boy, in the name of free advertising I shall concede. A wise man once said "True friends are to be kept few and close." I suppose the Orwell generation does not adhere to this philosophy. I will start working on my page, and just think of it as an extension of my website. And, if it's as dynamite as the free website I created, my friends are in for a real treat!

Looking through this thread, I didn't see one very important point mentioned that applies to most members here. I would have expected it with the title of this thread, so for anyone who is holding out on FB, consider this.

If your business is selling to consumers, you need to be on FB. If you're like me doing B2B, it's much more optional. Consider your SEO. When someone finds you on Google, what do they know about you? In most cases...nothing. You have to build trust from a serious disadvantage. When you get recommended in a FB group...that's powerful! Combine FB with top Google results and you should not have to complain about being short on work.

As others have pointed out here, FB is not about "selling" because it's a "social" place. You build relationships, put a "face" on your business, and FB can be a solid asset in your marketing mix.

Like I said earlier folks... I literally "land" 2-3 jobs a month from my facebook page.

Absolutely great to be able to get in front of two to three hundred people with my twice weekly updates etc...

I also paid to advertise for a couple of weeks... Didn't get anything, other than about 5-10 more people becoming a "fan" or "like" my page.

What is cool though... is that I have landed a few jobs from "friends of friends" etc... and like someone said earlier... they can click on your company page and see photos, info and generally get an idea of the type business you run.

I started my page months and months ago, but everything I'm reading in the trade magazines and journals say you are missing out if you don't market yourself this way.

Last year, my free facebook page generated tens of thousands of dollars. This year it will again.

To get more fans to your Facebook Page you can try to Search for Local Groups, Join them and participate in Local discussions, share your information and thoughts. Like Search for Orlando or Florida, then click Groups on the left side and you will see many local groups to join.

can we put together a concerted effort to "like" each others business pages on FB? someone mentioned that the google and the FB work well together?
one point: does one need to relax their personal privacy preferences to get the benefits of "friends of friends seeing their business pages? I need a few more posts to attach my FB address.

Great info guys! It is so true, social marketing is so much more than a tool for meeting people and reconnecting with friends it is a great way to broaden your consumer audience. You can reach so many prospective customers and connect with other contractors all over the world. Twitter is a great tool too, you can use it to get people to go to your website, advertise specials and get your phones ringing!
