I Got Read The Riot Act Hanging Doorhangers...

I had an hour to spare today so I was hanging some doorhangers near a bathroom remodel I'm doing. Lady comes out of her house and reads me the riot act telling me I should not approaching people's houses in this neighborhood because a murder occurred in the area (about a year ago if I remember correctly). Am I being insensitive if I continue hanging them in that neighborhood, or was this particular person perhaps a bit paranoid?

Note: the murder wasn't performed by a contractor, nor was it committed by somone hanging doorhangers or any other type of salesperson but rather a high school student who knew the victims.

Hopefully they don't get any package deliveries, meter readers or substitute postal people because that would really be scary for the residents. Tell the lady to get bent, then go get a ski mask to wear and finish disseminating your door hangers.

If is hung on, slid under or left on my "stoop". It IMMEDIATELY goes in the trash,

Personally I find it offensive. Somewhat violated by the trespass. I am not saying that you do not have the right to do what you are doing, I just do not care for it.

As for getting read the riot act......She sounds like a neurotic, lonely person that just needed any form of human contact!!!!!!

I honestly never considered that people might be offended by this type of advertising, I'll have to rethink this strategy, thanx for the heads up folks.

Regardless of what us two ego-driven, rock-headed, nay-saying, opinionated contractors think.......

What has been your turn out. Your response ratio from this form of advertising? That is the ONLY basis for cessation on continuance of distribution.

Re: I Got Read The Riot Act Hanging Doorhangers...

Got to love going to your local box store only to come out to your car and find one under the wiper. WTF!!!!! Don't touch my vehicle

I loved it last year some chinese person was going around putting hangers on door knobs in my neighborhood. Long story short he opened my storm door went to hang the hanger on the knob of my main door which was not latched, but the door pushed open. There stood my 115lb bull mastiff mix looking him down. Needless to say my man was out!!!!!! A nice pat on my dogs head and a thats a good boy was well deserved

You need to change your strategy and the wording on the door hangers. Make the door hanger more of a notification that you are working in the neighborhood. Hang them at the start of the job to warn of excessive trucks noise, and activity in the neighborhood. Then you can play if off like your doing them a service.

What do you guys think of putting flyers in the HO's paper box? Do you look at this also as an invasion of privacy? I do this when things are slow and get decent responce but I never stoped to think that some HO's might think I should keep my hands off.

Should be ok, as long as you don't steal their paper for resale. LOL

BTW, understand the HO doesn't own that box. It belongs to the paper it is for. I would expect to be charged for insert delivery if you're caught.

Malco -

Judging by the geographic location, it is defintely a localized psychological or trained response. - Very entertaining places to visit - second only to Camden.

Hang away brother, you paid good money for those hangers and you aren't hurting anyone (other than the paranoid neighbor). As far as I know, most murderers don't go around hanging stuff with their name and location on it, so I don't think most people will mind.

The best part is that the lady kept the doorhanger, I hope she doesn't call me for an estimate.

No one ever hangs stuff on my door.

Must have something to do with the razor wire and the dogs.

Yeah, the only doorhangers I get is from landscapers and I did hire one, btw. Otherwise, it's one big hill to climb for a pizza ad.
