I was wondering cause I did mine yesterday and kept checking but it never showed.
I know for a fact that I am the only finish carpenter here advertising this way. not that this kind of advertising does much for my business but maybe 1 day it might bring a customer my way. I deal mainly with builders and I dont know of any that find their subs off the net.
However it migh bring me a deck or 2 in the future, we will see.

Yes... While a neat little strategy, this is not a long-term SEO strategy... In fact it would take very little effort for someone experienced to beat your ranking out... Link Popularity decides your ranking even more-so then content, title tags, keywords etc...

The more incoming links you have from other related websites the higher you'll rank for a much longer period of time. Backlinks will also improve your Google Local and in some cases you'll even show more then 1 listing.

Monopolize that first page of Google!

Here's a simple way to get listed onto the first page of google
without even owning a website. FOR FREE (Real Basic Stuff)

Go to the google keyword tool. It's free. Do a search for it.

Then type your keywords into the search tool without synonyms, Google will tell you how many people are searching for what you have. IE:
Roofing Contractor Denver. (this is just an example.)

You will get your the search numbers so you can really see how many people are searching for exactly what you have.

Then take your example of roofing contractor denver and put quotes around it. "roofing contractor denver" Then look at how many results show up for that on an actual google search.

It will say "roofing contractor denver" 1-8000 (or whatever the number is You are looking for less than 10k results, to make this work.

Then write a 300-500 word article for your business using your keywords roofing contractor denver (or whatever your business is) Don't worry if you don't think you can write. You're not trying to win a Pulitzer. (but do use spell check and check for grammar.)

You want to include your keywords in the title, at the end of the opening paragraph, once in the body of the article and once at the end of your article. (Don't forget to put your phone number in there.)

Publish your article on a free article directory, craigslist etc. If you have a website you can link your site to your article. This will also help your website ranking.

Your article will be listed onto the first page of Google for your keywords, usually inside of a week. (sometimes inside of a day)

This is all free. No PPC costs, no lead services, no cost.

I'm not trying to sell anything here. I found all this stuff on my own and know some people using these tactics (contractors, restaurants, etc.) and it's working for them really well. I have not seen this method fail yet. I just have to figure out how to build a website. But I've got the marketing part down.

If anyone is interested in undertaking, building of their own web site, might I suggest sitepoint. It's a really good resource with a thriving community.
