Home Show Marketing-GC's-Be The Expert

I have been looking for ways to stand out in the crowd, so this year when I do shows I find out if there is a speaking slot, this is a popular feature in home shows. Today I got a speaking slot for the Seniors Show at a local casino. I am marketing "Aging in Place" remodeling. The aging baby boomers want to stay in their homes and I want to do their remodeling. Whether my competition agrees or not, I must be an expert because I get up on stage and speak about my subject for an hour. It's a great marketing and networking opportunity. This will be my 2nd time on stage. This stuff is great.
Anybody else doing this kind of thing?

My theme for the show.

Hell no we won't go!

I just found this post while researching "aging in place" modifications and improvements and was wondering how did your Senior Show speaking engagement go? That is a briliant idea that I never would have thought of.

I have been missing out on this "aging in place" nitch for to long. Handyman Solutions' current customer base are the same clients that need these type of modifications and we have not even educated them that the services are available.

Re: Home Show Marketing-GC's-Be The Expert

Wow, this is an old post.
Well there is good news and bad news, the talk went well, in spite of the fact I am not a polished speaker, and nervous about public speaking to boot.
The audience was polite and even my powerpoint showing photos of home modifications went without a hitch.

The bad news is the seniors weren't interested in anything but free stuff and spending the day at the 5 cent slots. One old gal told me "I bought my fridge in the 70's and its still working fine". I told her hang on to it because harvest gold may make a comeback.
Since then I have been a speaker 2 more times, including last week and my theme was "Your kitchen, hot or not"?
This is a great way to stand out from your competition and I am getting better at speaking. I am still doing the Aging in Place, and this will be big, but the best way to market it I think is to network. Few people that need home modifications for aging are going to be reading print ads or be surfing the internet. So its going slow for me, but it is going.

Thank you for the response. I have contacted Starsha Valentine at the NHBA to find out about CAPS certification in my area but it is not looking good. In your opinion is the certification itself worth the time, effort and cost if I have to travel to another state to attend?

Thank you

Send him a private message, or not. I think it would add some spice to have you tell us all about him and let us decide whether he is the same guy you know.
