Home Improvement Guides In Supermarkets

We were recently contacted by Home Improvement Guides. Its a company that puts together a book of advertisers and then rents space in super-markets, pharmacies, blockbuster, etc.

Has anyone had any experience with this company or type of product? I know that I never pick up those magazines on the racks in the supermarkets, but maybe others do.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Home Improvement Guides In Supermarkets

Funny you mention this because this morning I received a call from some sort of Media company out here in Miami telling me about their services. Apparently, they have a direct business going with a very large gym located nearby our office location. The representative told me that they would do a :30 ad space for us and that our ad would run exclusively at this gym and that we would be the only construction/remodeling company advertised. The advertisement would run for 6 months at 18 hours each day. I'm meeting with them on Tuesday seeing as to how this gym is located in a very commercial part, in which also happens to be across a University as well.

Re: Home Improvement Guides In Supermarkets

We did do some advertising is some of those types of magizines or newspapers. From my experience you need to watch what types of things you advertise in. If you want to do a bit of "market research" on what ones seem to do better. Pick 5-6 different locations and do a drive by to check to see how many of each is on the racks. When I did this it looked like the racks were restocked about once a week in the areas where I was looking.

drive by each location daily and just do a quick count...if they haven't dropped in quantity then obviously they probably are not moving many copies in your area. If you don't take the 20 minutes a day to do this how do you know if the few hundred or more dollars are going to be put to good use?

What we found was that most were a waste of time...they really didn't have many moving that often. The one that we did have alot of luck with was a newspaper type of publication that was directed toward women. This particular one was only set out at beauty salons..and womens stores. It had a "nitching effect" in that it apealed to the people who came to those stores. If you can find something like that I would say it's probably a safe bet...the others are just a dime a dozen..they are put out all over the place..every store and gas station has them. they become nothing more then noise.

Also another thing to keep in mind is who your market is that will see the ad..in the case above it worked out great for a contracting company...I'm sure you married guys won't admit it but who makes the renewvation decisions in your house?...don't worry everyone already knows the answer..
