Here Is A Way To Get To You Customers First.
Hey All.
In our city we have a website for the city, and it posts all of the recent building permits. I go online once every two weeks, and print them out. I send a one page flyer hand writen, with company info on it, and to that i put a couple of buisness cards attached with a paperclip. The envelope is hand writen to the address provided by the website.. When my potential customers get the envelope its, got my company info all over it, and its looks like its a bill or invoice, or something of importance because it is hand writen and addressed to the homeowners, or contractors. The paperclip is in ther for two reasons. 1. it attaches the buisness cards to the flyer. 2. when they first get the envelope it has a feel to it that there is something in it other than paper. And it gets thier curiosity....hense opening the envelope and veiwing my info. I have had many calls regarding my company....and we are the first company in the door before they need us. We send a follow up letter every 3-4 weeks. Hope this helps. Jay

Do you actually get jobs from this? I've always had my sh*t together and all subs already lined up prior to the project starting and pulling the permits. So when I've gotten calls from contractors in the past or gotten letters along the lines of "We saw your permit... do you need any help with ***?" I always thought, what freaken losers, or Christ this guy must be hard up if he is digging through the new permits in desperation for a job.

Mike, you do bathroom remodels which are smaller in size & prep work. The original poster is a drywall hanger/taper. he is going after new construction , complete remodels & maybe commercial work. Those projects take much longer to execute and when the permit is pulled maybe demo/foundation/framing is already ready not other trades. |

Re: Here Is A Way To Get To You Customers First.
You could be right for all I know. What I was saying was my experience as a homeowner, not a GC. I've never gotten a call that I can think of from any potential sub off of a permit we have pulled as a GC, but I have gotten plenty of calls from potential retail subs looking for work when as a homeowner I have pulled permits for work on my houses.
Like I said, do you get jobs from this? Even though my perceptions as a homeowner were what they were from getting calls like this, if it works for them, then more power to them. I've gotten complaints from homeowners from door hangers from us or other means of advertising, but the advertising works and just because some homeowner gets their nose out of joint wouldn't mean I would stop doing legitimate marketing either. |
