Help Getting Website Started

To anyone that might be able to share their experience with me I will thank you in advance!!

I am looking to start building a new website, and am not sure what the best options are. I built one a couple years ago on godaddy.com, but it wasnt very nice. I am looking to get a professional site done without spending a fortune....HELP!!!

There is footbridge and then there are a few CT guys who build sites also.
Look at Footbridge and then check out the other guys and see who you like best.

I did a complete site on my own with very little knowledge. First do a google search on WordPress. You can create html pages in a front that requires knowledge of a wordprocessor like MSFT Word. Setting it up may require some help. Hope this helps

Re: Help Getting Website Started

google offers a system and tools that make development and updates fairly easy.

The upside about hiring a professional is they can (but oftentimes don't) make a much more effective site. The downside is you will probably be unable to maintain and update it yourself, thus being tied to the developer.

Google offers a pretty good alternative. If you are semi-technically competent and you have a good sense of what motivates buyers, you can build and maintain your own pretty easily.

Google charges nothing for hosting and supplying the tools. You will need to have a registered name first.

Get your name and hosting from godaddy.com. Buy the deluxe package - less than $200 - great support. Build the site with coffeecup.com Visual Site Designer. No html needed, and the price is right.
Best of luck (and have fun).

I would pick a local designer, and make sure they can employ some decent SEO. And make sure they explain things to you in terms you can understand.

Hammer Nail is right. Use a local person, try a college student, someone that does it part time. They'll be more likely to do small changes or add on when you need it.

Re: Help Getting Website Started

If you want to do it on your own check out Joomla. It has a quick start guide that walks you through installing it on your computer and building a website for a landscaping company. The example website will look bad but its a good way to become familiar with the software.

Since it's free mess around with it for a little bit and see what you come up with. If its not working get someone else to do it. If it is buy a domain name and find someone to host it.

If you don't like Joomla you can also try Wordpress or Mambo. I've never used these two but wordpress is going to start you off with more of a blog layout.

Re: Help Getting Website Started

Hi Trinity Homes!

I wanted to let you know that I know a great place you can go to for a website. They have helped me with mine for YEARS, and are really great people.

They sell beautiful websites and designs for a fraction of what it would cost from most designers, and they've been around longer. They have a whole bunch of web templates that were designed specifically for builders, contractors and even realtors. (as well as a lot of other sites too).

RealtorCafe .com is one of their websites that you can go and look at some of their stuff. Barb and Andrea are the partners there. Tell them Chey sent you!

Hope this helps you and I wish you luck!

Hope you are making out well and you have been shopping around. I see you live in NY not sure how close to NYC. The company doing my website is very good and they have a digital photo service for companies in New Jersey. If you are close to the state line they might consider doing that chore for you as well. They have a link at the bottom of my website ftslandscaping.com Rockbridge ... Hope it goes well for you.

Trinity go slow.First do some keyword research ,if you dont know what a keyword is, find out.Google keyword tool is free try it.Pick a keyword that
you do work in "Sunrooms" kitchens, siding. Then go to Godaddy.com or namecheap.com and buy domain 8.00 one year less for longer term.Use the keyword as part of domain newkitchen.com.

Take a look at wordpress this is a blog platform, the reason being it is very easy to update yourself. You can add new content with a few clicks. My site is a wordpress custom theme.

See it here Replacement Windows Ma

You can also outsource some good web designers in freelancers portal like odesk.com, elance and getafreelancer.com. There's a pool of experts there just make sure you explain them very well what you need and want.

Re: Help Getting Website Started

I would recommend J - Sullivan who is a frequent member here. He offers the complete package at affordable prices. If you want a site that SELLS and is ORIGINAL and not a cookie cutter template that some of the big companies use, I would choose him. He's currently working on my site re-design and I'm quite happy with the progress so far!

He's also spot on when it comes to email marketing and SEO..

Here's a link to his website http://www.sullivanwebdev.com/ --or -- you could go to his CT profile page here :

Shoot him an e-mail.
