Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
Just wondering for the those of you who have a well developed website has it benefitted you company ? Has it made your business more profitable ? Im currently on the edge of having a new website designed because im am unsatisified with the first one that i had built. I believe that having a website is a good idea either way b.c it allow customers to get to know you and your company better but has it brought you any new customers ?

Re: Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
My website brings me a lot of business. My print and online advertising gets the people to my website and then my website gets them to call me. I'm not your typical contractor so once they see my website, they're pleasantly surprised.
As far as my website design, I do it all myself. I got my domain and set up my website. I choose to keep my website design extremely simple with no fancy graphics. This is for a few reasons. 1. Being that I am also a computer tech, I know that having all those fancy graphics and applets can cause issues on people's computers. If a person doesn't have the proper plug-ins, etc. If they're computers are bogged down with spyware and shareware. I keep my website very low on the resource hog meter. LOL. 2. I also keep it simple so that it's straight forward and easy to use. The less people have to think when using my website, the better. 3. I don't believe in having some fancy, FAKE ASS website with fake pictures, etc. I'm a real person and I want people to know it. If I was a computer graphics designer, my website might be fancy but I don't need to put on the 'appearance' of being some wonderful huge company with a pretty website with royalty free photos of somebody else's work. This really annoys me about people's websites (sorry for the rant. lol) I can honestly say getting a domain and having a website had to be one of the best things I've ever done. It's hard not to look like a professional business nowadays without having a website. I've seen people have their 'website' on Myspace, etc. That is SO freaken Lame!

Re: Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
I can easily say my site has brought me significant work. More work than referrals.
It has been the best money making investment for me bar none for over 8 years. More that 60% of my business comes as a direct result of my website |

I think those are the same people that use free Yahoo mail accounts with the tacky ads at the bottom of their e-mails.

Re: Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
Im glad to here that your website has improved business for some of you. It inspires me to have my website built again by another professional hoping that it will help drive customers to my company. At this point in my career i shouldnt have to worry where my next job is going to come from due to the fact i am a professional. Im hoping that a well developed website bringing serious customers looking for high end work will ease my mind a little and boost sales.

Most of my work comes from referrals and my website. I agree that the hard part is getting traffic to it and plus making it a selling tool instead of just informational.

Re: Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
Websites are great and should definitely be in your advertising budget. If you don't have one you are at a big disadvantage because your customers are online looking for you. Now the next thing I will tell you is, contractors need to be able to harness the power of the social networking sites. i.e. Facebook, Twitter, ect.... once you do this you will be able to put your marketing on cruise control.

Re: Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
I've been doing a ton of free website critiques lately. (In fact, I have a few piled up that I need to finish right now.)
Here's the cool part: So far every local market I've researched has major opportunity. Big cities, small towns...every one I've looked at. These local markets, for a construction business, are all very attainable. A little work and you really can get to the top of Google and start getting traffic. Quick start do-it-yourself list: 1. Find keywords that get real traffic using Google Keyword Tool. (Hint: find your core keywords to optimize your main website. Then find all the other "lower-traffic" keywords and optimize a page for each set. You want a big "online footprint" to get all the residual traffic from long tail keywords.) 2. Check your competition by "Googling" your new-found keywords. (Advanced web guys can use fancy software to find holes on page one.) 3. Put the best, most attainable, most relevant, targeted keywords in your page title. Hint: If the words won't bring you visitors who are already actively looking for your specific service, they're no good. 4. Build your new-found keywords into your URL. (If you have a URL that is more than a year old according to Google's info, then KEEP IT. Add keywords using subdomains or "/directories" added to your current URL. Reason: domain age has SEO clout.) 5. Post fresh content about once a week. Don't "keyword load" in a spammy way, but do sprinkle your keywords in naturally. 200 words is plenty, per new post. If you can talk about your industry for 5 minutes, you can add fresh content. It's not difficult. 6. Link out to relevant sites. And link internally to your a hub on your own page (tastefully.) 7. Get inbound links. Be ethical. How? Simple: If you have to ask "should I or shouldn't I," don't do it. Use common sense. 8. Make a video, and distribute it online with a link back to your site in the description. 9. Stay up all night fretting about it for 6 months in a row. 10. You are done. Go have a beer. PS. If your spouse keeps asking what the heck you're doing on that stupid computer...you know you're on the right track. |

Re: Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
Pretty much what most people here say...
Our two websites provide 100% of our business (excluding referrals, friends and repeat business). Webs site is great and it only gets better with time. So don't hold off - get on yesterday. What I find funny is that many websites are built upon a template and look the same... I personally don't like it... If I was to get a new site now, here is what i would do: 1: get a catchy domain name that includes your main industry in it, and make it short & easy to remember. (not www . joeshmosidingroofingguttersnorthcarolina .com ) ![]() 2: Get a decent design, but make it simple to navigate. NO FLASH!!! no sounds! no videos that start to play as soon as someone gets to the site - its too annoying and people will just leave. 3: I would use Wordpress as the platform for the site - it is so easy to manage, great for SEO and just looks good. 4: Get quality, relevant content on your site - spend the time to write it - this will more than pay for it self. Good luck

Re: Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
i'm glad to hear everyone speak so highly of the benefits of a website. Ours will be up and running sometime next week, at which time I will post the address here for opinions and suggestions. I'm pleased with how it's looking so far, and would like to find it draws more business my way!

Re: Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
If you have a site that is properly optimized for your target specific keywords it will bring in plenty of leads. It is one of the cheapest forms of advertising if setup properly. Look closely and you'll find that the guys here that generate leads have sites that are excellent for the search engines.
Unfortunately most web designers don't know much about SEO. They make sites that are visually appealing, and this impresses the potential contractor who knows little about web design. Make sure your designer optimizes your site to fit your business, so that you can be rewarded with lots of leads yourself. Good Luck |

What has been effective for you in "driving eyeballs" to your site. I am a remodeling contractor looking for ways to get local prospects to my new site. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Has Your Website Brought You Any Jobs ?
Just posting on line with the link in my sig has brought traffic.Plus, I don't use generic keywords. Be specific with them, and their 'strings'.
