Grant Jobs

This has come up before and we have been involved in the past but got away from it. Recently an established customer qualified for a grant to make his home more accessible and he asked us to bid it. We got and completed the job, but apparently the agency wasn't used to quality conscious contractors that perform as promised. Since then we have been swamped with requests for bids.

One prospect showed our rep the contractor list the agency provides to their clients. Ours was the only name that had a red star next to it and she was told that we are very good at returning calls.

Some of us are wondering where the next job is coming from so I thought I'd throw this out. Many grants are for low income and the working conditions are not the best. I find the accessability clients to generally be a notch up.

They are paid for with HUD money that is already allocated before the bids go out. You must be insured and lead certified in addition to meeting your local legitamacy requirements. (licensed, etc.) Most jobs are paid within 30-60 days of completion, but that depends more on the local agency.

A look in our local yellow pages under Charitable Organizations turned up 2 agencies that I know handle HUD funds. If you find one, they will know who else you may want to talk to in your area.

Good Luck
Dave
