Google Seminars For Success...

I will be attending Google's "Seminars for Success" in order to get the advanced training on Analytics (and Web Optimizer) in Sunnyvale, CA for three days starting on 2/10,

and then in San Diego for two days starting on 2/17 for Adwords 301 and 302.

http://www.google.com/adwords/seminars/topics.html

In case no one knew (I just found out about these seminars but have been learning using the online tools up till now), Google sanctions these seminars to help anyone who wants to, get to expert level in search marketing and web site optimization.

Pretty cheap, in my opinion, at $250/day, considering the hundreds of hours I have spent learning on my own for the past two years.

Anybody in the area up for a cocktail or want to attend the seminars?

I know, I'm geeking out.

Re: Google Seminars For Success...

AdWords 101

What is AdWords 101?

AdWords 101 lays the groundwork for a successful campaign. If you are just getting started with AdWords, this is the seminar for you. Attendees leave with a better understanding of how the AdWords system works, how campaigns should be structured, and how keyword lists and ads are developed. We also introduce Google Analytics and conversion tracking, provide an overview of your advertising options, and explain the billing cycle.
What does this cost include?
Is AdWords 101 the right course for me?
AdWords 101 is our most basic seminar. It is helpful if you have already created an AdWords account and have familiarized yourself with the user interface. However, if you are completely new, we do start from the beginning, with opening an account.

Open Q&A
What's next after AdWords 101?
AdWords 101 and AdWords 201 are always offered on back-to-back days so that you can continue and build on your learnings. Taking both classes together is useful because one day is not enough to cover all of the tools and features of the system. AdWords 101 focuses on how the system works, and how to set it up properly. The second day, AdWords 201, allows you to learn about fine-tuning campaigns, using additional tools, and more advanced techniques.

That is one helluva bullet list to go buy, ain't it?

Maybe we can just keep this one going and anyone can look at the list of bullets and ask their questions.

What did I just say?

Re: Google Seminars For Success...

Ok, now that the feathers have settled ( if you missed it, it was a good one),

Here is my proposal:

I will help anyone who wants the help do a complete site (Silvertree?) and we will work on it until it is finished and producing the results you want. From design and content testing to SEO and PPC even. Whatever it takes to make it successful and profitable. I will take two gitters only.

In return, I would like for those two to make a donation to the the boys and girls club in Minneapolis here:

https://secure2.convio.net/bgca/site...donation=form1

I want to pay forward some of the help I have received in the past.

This particular charity speaks more to me in that my mentor, Ray Usher, of http://www.superl.net/ in Minneapolis, grew up in the projects there and made it out to become the largest curtainwall insulator in the country and a successful and important man that was willing to share his time and knowledge with others who needed his help (me, mainly). I wouldn't have had the success I have experienced without him.

Ray is gone now and when he died, I had to start thinking like a pilot instead of thinking like the student, if you know what I mean.

So, here we go. Paul?

P.S. I will answer questions for anyone else that has them and will ask for nothing in return. BUT, if you can make a small donation to this charity, please do. $5 is not very much, but from many it can help make a difference for some kid that does not have someone to look up to and learn from.

Re: Google Seminars For Success...

That's a very generous offer, Ivinni! FYI, I've been to all of these seminars and had a ton of additional training. Here's my advice as a "vet". These seminars are great, but it's like drinking from a fire hose. By the time you're done your brain will hurt. If I had it to do over again (and I might do just that) I would do the following things:

1. Eliminate distractions. If you're going to take your laptop with you, don't log in to the internet during the seminar. Incoming mail, IMs, Skypes, etc. will distract you. You'll need ALL of your concentration because the information comes at you so fast.
2. Take copious notes! You'll get a thumb drive with the presenter's materials on it along with a print out of every slide, but don't rely on those things to jog your memory. Take notes until you feel like you hand will fall off.
3. Ask questions. The presenters move very fast and are incredibly knowledgeable. Even if you have to corner them after the day is over or during a break, get your questions answered during the event. They're not famous for replying to your questions via email afterwards. Don't assume you're the only one in the room who has a question. You may be accused of being annoying, but better that than walk away having wasted your time.
4. Teach someone soon. The best way to retain what you have learned is to teach it to someone else. The more quickly you do it, the better you will retain the information. What you've offered to do here will be helpful not only to the people you're working with, but also to you in solidifying your grasp of the concepts.

You're a brave soul to offer to spend the kind of time it will take to help people in this forum. You'll have a great experience at the seminars. They are well worth the investment and your knowledge will pay off for some lucky person(s) on the forum. Good for you!

but it's like drinking from a fire hose.
I figured as much! If had not been studying or two years on my own (and through IM forums. I doubt I would be able to grasp even the nomenclature necessary to understand what's going on.

1. Eliminate distractions. If you're going to take your laptop with you, don't log in to the internet during the seminar. Incoming mail, IMs, Skypes, etc. will distract you. You'll need ALL of your concentration because the information comes at you so fast.
Very good info, only available from some one who has been there. Thanks.

2. Take copious notes! You'll get a thumb drive with the presenter's materials on it along with a print out of every slide, but don't rely on those things to jog your memory. Take notes until you feel like you hand will fall off.
Point taken. I have done the same thing in my self study and have a thick three ring binder to prove it, which I have to refer to often.

I'll be sure to pester the dog sh!t out of them until I get my money's worth.

That has been what I have wanted to do here. I have a lot of info and I know that if I don't put it to use immediately, I will begin to lose it. As much as it will benefit others, this offer was kind of selfish for the reasons you said above. I hope someone will take advantage.

Well, I know it will force me to go to whatever lengths it will take to make a successful operation for someone. It will be part challenge, and part trying like hell not to be a liar.

I hope the seminars will be the point where the mystery will be removed from the equation as far as this type work goes. Even though I have learned volumes up to this point, I can see from the bullet lists of the training modules that I still have a long way to go.

I appreciate the advice and the encouragement.

Also, it would be helpful if you kept an eye on this thread and helped out from time to time. Based on the posts I have seen from you so far, you are a valuable asset to everyone here as well.

Silvertree has committed to a donation to the boys and girls club of Minneapolis. I hope he will share the amount with everyone here as I believe it may inspire others. But, money is a personal thing to most and I will allow him to devulge the amount or not.

When everybody gets ready...

Thanks for the compliment. I hope that what I have to say is valuable. You are obviously interested in giving something back. So am I.

Re: Google Seminars For Success...

Here is what I would like to do.

I have spoken to and mutually agreed with Ivinni to relay the entire building and development concepts that he has spoken of, so that there will be 100% transparency in what needs to be done in the background to make this work for anyone, from domain selection and registration to site planning to development and tweaking to releasing it online and then how to optimize it for the most productive results.

Although I have a recently made site, I would still like to learn to not only build a site from scratch, having someone to bounce off of for a guide, but then how to learn to do all of the SEO and SEM tips that continually get discussed, but then get lost in the convoluted mess that I call my memory.

So, I have decided to get some version of a cms wysiwyg website editor to build a site from scratch, which in my case, will be able to make offerings that are not just Roofing Specific, as my current site is.

Last year, I started to do siding replacements, due to the volume of hail damage calls in the area and I was definitely not in a position to get myself marketed productively to beat out the majority of out of town storm chasers.

Additionally, I would like to sub out a qualified contractor for vinyl and/or fiberglass window replacement projects with an associated add on for energy efficiency of providing blower door testing and energy audits, through a very highly qualified contractor.

So, now I can propose to supplement my trade knowledge with the remainder of the exterior renovation products and hopefully, by becoming more diversified, allow for continued growth in a supposed down market.

All of this discussion and step by step deployment of tactics will be recorded on a continuing basis, so that all of us can learn together, from beginning novice, to the most studious and advanced webmaster and seo expert.

My first homework assignment is to decide on which website building software should be used.

I desire to select something that is either free, or very nominally priced and readily available, which has a minimal or zero learning curve, providing that the user knows something like Word and a few other minor computer functions.

Along with that, it would need to be something that is updatable and has the close to newest current features that are abuzz in the website building industry.

So, along I go, in search of the perfect and most economical and simplest site builder to be found.

What should I use that meets these requirements? We shall see.
