Google Maps

Is there a way to have my business listing further up on Google Maps?

Re: Google Maps

I believe that the factors used by Google Maps are similar to those used by Google general search. A well structured website with lots of keyword rich content.

Re: Google Maps

a good website full with lots of key words and content help the most. try to limit the shorter phrases and keep metioning the key words in large paragraphs. then google will eventually recognise this and you will move up the rankings when your website becomes more regularly visited.

hope that helps

How to go to the top of google local in under 1 month
I've lurked on these boards for quite a while now, and have learned a lot about the painting industry, websites, and SEO from you guys.

So as repayment I'll tell you how I went from being ranked somewhere below 200th place to the top spot on google local in under 2 weeks.

It's easy and only takes one day.

1) Go to your google local ad, and click on the edit function. When you get there fill out every bit of it.

2) Provide an address in the city you want to advertise in along with the zip code.

3) Provide 4 phone numbers one being your fax line.

4) They provide a section where you can list a coupon. Provide the coupon!

5) Fill out the payments accepted field.

6) Fill out the hours of operation

7) In the product and services field? Use it as a keyword bedding area.

8) Get a customer to go provide a review. ( I need to do this)

9) They provide an area where you can put up 8 images. Do it even if you're using stock images like me. You can take them down and put up your own images when you get them.

10) Last but not least, if you have a video you can load that up to.

I did all these things except the video, and 2 weeks later a friend that owns one of the largest painting services in the area calls one morning and asks.. Did you know that you're number 1 on google local now? How did you do that?

I almost fell over
Yeah, this stuff works.

I did all this stuff a few weeks ago on my own websites and also some websites for clients. I have seen great results.

We're talking #2 or even #1 on Google local for some keywords that get real traffic. You really should do this stuff!

Re: Google Maps

Google Local also incorporates parts of the main search algo to determine top listings.

Factors for Google Local include:
1) content and pages indexed in Google
2) The general "theme" of your site. In other words, if everything on your site is about red widgets, but you put name as "blue widgets", you get the idea.
3) keywords in the name of the business. Use it.
4) links pointing to your main site.
5) reviews on your listing. Quantity drives the listing up.

Good Luck!

Re: Google Maps

Thanks all for the above advice. I did these things and went from no presence on Google to a #2 listing.

But I do have some questions...

When I search my specific hometown, I get listings from companies in nearby towns. However. if I search on those towns, my listing does not show up. How do I get my listing to come up in those areas as well? Keyword insertion of all the town names?

DamionR...
Regarding #4, many listings show links from other web pages (their home page, yellow pages, city search, etc). How do I get links to appear in my listing...mainly from my home page and the local business association?
