Google Adwords

Just read an interesting article in usa today about googles ad words program

Has anyone tried this for their business? It works by showing your ad only when certain specified searches are made. You can even set the specific zip codes you want to advertise in. I always thought google would only be effective for large businesses but i can focus my ads for my area on google.

Just wondering if anyone has gotten response from this. I know you set a budget and get charged per click, but does it take a huge budget for you ad to actually show?

Any this tool is sweet: https://adwords.google.com/select/Ke...?defaultView=3

You use this to type in your keywords and get suggestions for other key words that may be more popular
I did deck staining and deck restoration and came up with an entire list of related searches

The neat thing is it also shows trends for how often the searches are made through the past year. Almost all the stuff related to deck staining was in May and June with next to zero searches in february. This means i can up my budget extensively in may june. Also it looks like june july are the big months on searches for how to stain a deck. Assumedly this is when people are getting nagged to do the deck. I figure this would be the perfect time to place an ad about saving time by hiring my company...etc

Just a really neat tool i thought some of yall might like

Re: Google Adwords

Another quick search shows that january is one of the biggest months for people searching for bathroom remodeling/painting

January also appears to be big month for drywall related searches

March is by far the biggest month for hardwood flooring

This is fun!!

Re: Google Adwords

Adwords has been amazing for us.
We spend about $900 a month and it seems to generate about
the same number of leads as the organic searches.
Highly recommended

Re: Google Adwords

I've been using google adwords for almost a year now. I'm competing for the same keywords as ServiceMagic, and I'm a ServiceMagic member! lol

It works great! I've had over 15K visits to my web site. I frequently end up above ServiceMagic in the search results page also. I've made a few sales from it as well.

My site needs to be re-vamped though. It needs a clearer and stronger call to action so more of the 15k visit's result in a phone call to our office. = )

I also run a small affiliate business - I get commissions from companies that I write Google Ads for and it generates a few hundred a month from about 5 minutes effort. Not bad!

Re: Google Adwords

I started using adwords just recently, but my daily budget is 5.00$ max.

I haven't gotten anywhere with adwords yet, most of my leads have been through word of mouth and local classifieds.

I do plan on using adwords a little more, but unless I get a lead or two I will be wondering if it actually is working.

How many words do you guys use per compaign??

Re: Google Adwords

I guess I have about 400 keywords now.

Ultimate, you must be doing something wrong, 60 impressions is low.
We are getting close to 3,000 a day.

These are my Adwords numbers:

January 2007 Adwords:

Clicks 591 Impressions 90,689 CTR 0.65% CPC $1.16 Total $687.98

I guess that means 2,925 impressions a day last January

All time figures:

Clicks 9,744 Impressions 1,785,603 CTR 0.54% CPC $0.99 Total $9,604.81

All time average a day for 804 days:

2220 impressions per day

Its got to be the industry painting vs remodeling. I dont know what else it could be. George if you dont mind Ill pm you a list of keyword they have to be relevent and I add to them all the time. Unless its the way I am writing my adds, but I dont think thats possible because the impressions arent there. Some days there is like 30 impressions.

Chicago and Toronto are similar markets and similar weather.

60 impressions vs 2,900 is not an industry difference.
I think Aaron can take a look at it for you.

Its got to be like 1600 impressions a month. I only get a few click throughs on those imrpessions. So I cant say its my content because not enough people clicked through. I talked to Aaron once I will try it again. Dont forget though George my natural listing is not quite there yet. My site has only been optimized about a month and a half.

I'm doing much better with Yahoo Marketing and Microsoft AdCenter. Better CTR, less money (because it's all about Google). I use Google, but it's pretty pricey for the results I've seen so far.

Are you going on estimates this time of year. How many impressions and click throughs do you have.

That's a good question. I went in to check Yahoo and about fell off my chair - there was 167,000 impressions and 78 clicks for a campaign I started just last week. I know we've had at least two calls from that campaign - I didn't realize there were that many impressions. I went in and turned off content matching. I only want to be found by people looking for our services, not clicking because they see an ad placed in content somewhere. Less serendipity is better in our case.

More typical of Yahoo is the longer-running campaign. It's only seen in Florida (same with Microsoft and Google). Last week's stats: 720 impressions, 11 clicks, 1.53% CTR. Average CPC $.24.

Microsoft, my longer running campaign weekly stats is 143 impressions, 2 clicks, 1.39% CTR. Average CPC $.14

Compare with Google, 345 impressions, 2 clicks, .57% CTR and average CPC $.56.

I could get better stats with Google if I were willing to pay more. But I think the ROI drops off at a certain point.

I have about 100 keywords. I believe I read that adwords works better if you narrow down your lists and make your words more uniquely tailored to your business. Im trying that.

But so far, i have only had 1 click

@George Z

I hope those numbers are fictional, because if they are not Google WILL shut you down for that (and no money for you). It's in the terms of service along with not clicking your own ads. Just thought you might want to know.

Cheers

(Nevermind, I didn't read the post well enough, that's what your buying clicks for?)

Sorry, I don't see what George Z is doing is wrong? I think he stated clicks by other people and impression to his site.
