Give Me The Worst Of It!!!

www.TheColonialCustomPainting.com

This is my website. I do not like it, but please give me some feedback. What you would do to it besides burn it? What did this company do that made this website look terrible?

Re: Give Me The Worst Of It!!!

I think there is too much text on the first page. I also don't like the pictures. Your homepage looks like somebody is looking at blueprints. You are a painting company. Your home page should have a picture having something to do with painting. Maybe you or one of your employees painting a house in nice colors. My brother's site has buttons for the links on the left side taking you to different categories. His is not building related but I like his site. His homepage has a picture of one of his customers using one of his products. www.swspecialty.com. Hopefully others will offer some suggestions.

Hey 4G, Good Site, text is paramount, The colors scream colonist,
The pictures suck, sorry man, a designer sporting a cashmere sweater.( I was starting to speak with a lisp) very 1980 LOL.
Reads easy, good navigation, did I mention the picutures suck.
Four generations and no LOGO, and no pictures of grandpa holding a bucket of barn paint, or leaning on a ladder. At the very least hire an old guy and photo him doing doing what painters do-----painting. If you want to get artsy have a little guy painting the floor beside him, People standing around looking at each other has no relevance. I do like the colors and the beveled edges are just crisply paintied lines by a pro....Needs a logo to compliment the colors and design.

like woodmag said - the dude with the cashmere - it's entertaining to us ... burn it

for a painter - your color schemes on that site are way off. It's blah

your text is too long - i couldn't get into it

don't take personally - ye ask, ye shall receive

It just needs a little tweaking. Overall, its not bad. I would recommend adding MORE pictures of YOUR work.

4th, I put on my Harvey Homeowner glasses to read it. It's nice; no serious problems. I would suggest combing through every word of text; there are a few typos and awkward phrases. More pictures are always helpful. The testimonials need more polish/separation. I think "To whom it may concern" should be something different

I was too tired to comment last night, but there was definitely too mich text and not spaced out for easability of reading. It looked like a journal/blog entry.

The design seemed okay to me as far as the layout, but not the colors.

Definitely add better photos of what your customers need to see as a reflection of your capabilities.

Its not horrible, just needs some tweaking. Id look for things like yelling the entire first paragraph.

Being red and in all caps make it look like a warning.

Re: Give Me The Worst Of It!!!

Like some others have said, it is a bit wordy...well, it's real wordy. Less words, bigger and different font, and more pictures of past work. Simplify everything and make it much more concise. Customers could care less about all the details, they want to see your experience, past work, and contact info.

I am no website designer, so that's about all I'll say.

At least you have the guts to post your site...mine would get ripped apart, that's why I'm redo-ing it as we speak

The first thing you need is a logo. How does this work for you?

Re: Give Me The Worst Of It!!!

I'm going to throw some ideas together and make a few samples and we can try to work from there. I'm not the best with dreamweaver but I could put the work they put together for free. I am only soon to be 17 and when I see a business and check out their website it is a big impression on who they are and their effort towards making a well rounded business. Maybe its just my generation or my view but someday we will be your customers too.

Another thing that is quite disturbing if you are paying for a "custom design" it looks as though they took the other painting company on their homepage and tweaked the design colors and layout a slight bit. Poor work on their part. They even used the same pictures!

This company 4thgeneration is using, is designing these sites with templates (not very good ones either). They're just tweaking the colors and adding the text. I hope you didn't pay too much for their services.

I'd be willing to design you a site thats clean if you like. All you would have to do is buy a hosting account, and new domain name. I can work on it for you for free after work, and on the weekends. Let me know .

Re: Give Me The Worst Of It!!!

I feel like that kid who looks like the boy from the jungle book. My website is not that good, but people still like me enough to keep me around. I appreciate the help so far. It has given me some good insight.

I am 35 now almost 36.Lets see who connects to my age group? Here is a visual of what I want my website to be like speaking in figurative terms ofcoarse. Remember the Superfriends meet Frankenstein episode where Frankenstein drains the powers of the Superfriends , but takes on a little of each ones best powers to create a super being. Thats what I want. Not to steal others ideas, but build from suggestions to create a warm fuzzy feeling that compels viewers to contact me. No amount of money to drive them to my site will convert into calls unless people are eye pleased.

I have no idea who superfriends are but can guess, you are not trying to make friends and share family photos. From what I have read you are a fouth generation painter, what the heck does that have to to with feeling warm and fuzzy. Use your power luke........ WTH you are a fourth generation painter, do you not see the marketing potential of that statement alone......you need to talk to a proffesional (lawndart) and let them do your designing......You stick to the painting.....

I'd be willing to give a hand too. The template comes directly from Dreamweaver templates.
