Get Into Google Local NOW

NOt sure if any of you have done this... or at least checked to see if your in...

but here's your freebie, back-door way into Google's search rankings... without all of the SEO stuff....


If you do a search for a keyword... along with a location... Google shows a map and local business's FIRST... before the actual search results.

Here's an example... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...ch&btnG=Search

But... if you are not in Google's Local Database.... or not in the right catagories - you are missing out on free local business.


First - Check to see if you are in the database: search Google for your company and your city... such as "Bob's Plumbing Sacramento, CA".

Second - if you show up - that is good... proceed to step 5

Third - If not, go here and submit your company info: http://google.com/local/add/lookup?w...hl=en-US&gl=US

Fourth - In about a 2 weeks - you will get a piece of mail from Google with a pin number inside. You simply log into the URL they give you, enter the pin number.

Fifth - Log into your Google account and you can then update ALL of your company contact info - services, hours of operations, add a coupon, etc.

Another neat feature that you get is the "click-to-call" concept that search engines are trying to push. Basically the customer types in their phone number - and then Google calls you and connects the two calls together. Hokey service, but whatever.

Great post!

Google is going to be using this info more and more and may soon start showing different search results based on your location. For example if your in Dallas and type in "Paint Contractor" they will give you local results in Dallas instead of national results. It may change SEO totally.

I've noticed that for some time now, at certain sites the advertisements are local and I mean right down to the town I'm in and the surrounding areas.

Yes, they have been doing this for a while on Adsense ads but I'm talking about normal searches.
Soon, you may go to Google.com and type in Painting Contractor and since Google knows where you are (based on IP address) and knows that's a local type of search it will put local contractors on top of national listings.

If you have a Google account (why wouldn't you anyway - it's free and lets you int lots of kewl features) - you can set your location and it does this by default.

Also - Yahoo has a similar program - but only the basic listing is free. Detailed listings go from $10-25 per month. I'd still pick this over any yellow-page option.

Just so you know local search outsearched normal online search by 58% according to Yellow Page Online and comCross. That is great for us services guys! btw great post by Damion!
Thats one down, google local business, and xyz to go. There are more of these type of profiles that you can create. Yes, it does benefit your business!
