Free CO Detector??

I was thinking of offering free carbon monoxide detectors as an incentive. Is there any kind of liability issue with this? I was planning on even mounting it for the customer, within 15' of a bedroom. The only real problem I could see is equipment failure, but I'm sure that would be an extremely rare occurence.

If you mount it, you could be incurring liability beyond the manufacturers liability. Implied liability gets to be a target for attorneys.

That is "Fred" the Fish (Lake Trout) that weighed over 38# two days after she was caught. The DNR estimated she was about 42# when caught and could have been over 30 years old (?) because of the clear, cold water and the shortage of good food in the lake she was caught in. - In early June, we could see hundred of small Lake Trout (5# - 7# ) schooling on the bottom in 30' of water. We were fishing for them for lunch and that is the reason I had 6# line on when she hit and dragged us out about 200 feet where the water was about 200' deep. A very strange and tough lake to fish.

Jake - giving out something relating to customer safety is a good idea, especially during the heating season. Just give it to them in the box without opening it. If it is direct wired, then you could install it for you usual charge and assume the liability, just you would for any other paid job. It seems most people like a battery powered unit with a beeper for low battery as opposed to hard wired, but some municipalities require hard wired.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, come to think of it, I don't know why it would be any different than what I do on a normal basis anyway. I guess it's just out of my normal scope of work, so it had me second guessing. Ditto on the fish, BTW.
