Question

Do You Spend Thousands Per Month On Marketing?

If you spend thousands of dollars per month on marketing, what are you spending it on? How well is it working for you?

I know everyone doesn't spend that much, but I would love to hear from you if you do, or if you know someone who does.

Thanks,
Brandon

Re: Do You Spend Thousands Per Month On Marketing?

We spend around $7,000 a month in marketing efforts which isn't nearly enough. I am hoping to double that budget next year. We have both radio and tv ads. We are in the yellowpages under several large listings, we have ads in several area magazines, and we put a lot of effort into online marketing. There are many more expenses that I also consider part of our marketing budget.

I think that all of our marketing do very well because they all seem to overlap each other. I do not believe that a remodeling project is an impulse purchase. When people start searching for names of contractors they start to remember your radio and tv commercials when thumbing through the yellowpages or searching on the internet. All the marketing efforts work well together. My next marketing experiment will be with digital billboards.

My budget is $5.00 (yahoo web hosting)
Say it “5 dollar foot long!”
In my line of work there is no need to spend thousands on leads. My site generates more leads then I need. I’m looking to target hi-end clients.

I was wandering about the budget as well. For those of you will full marketing divisions, do you see more consistent work flow, or does it ebb and flow like normal construction

Wow... that's great LoneStar... too few people see the real value in marketing, especially when things are going well! I can't tell you how many people I talk to that say, "we have all the business we need." While that may be true for the moment, things tend to go in cycles and many businesses don't realize that they should have been proactive when they had the money to spend that may have insulated themselves from the big swings (downward) later on.

No one method is the complete answer in itself... I like your approach... and even though there may be many people here who don't have the availability to that type of budget, it is the principle that's important. Anything can be scaled up or down according to your own situation and budget.

How successful are you with tracking all of that? My only issue is that I always tell people never do any marketing unless you can track the results... With some of that media I know it can be difficult.

Anyway, nice to see you marketing for business today that will have your calendar filled a year from now!!!

We require the people who answer phones to get the info on where the customer heard about us and we make it a requirement on the contact form on our website. We then take those answers and plug it into a spreadsheet so that I can take a look at it on a weekly basis. I also try to compare this to impression reports from internet, tv, and radio reports. The marketing report helps me decide where to pump more dollars and where to cut back. Specifically, different parts of the year yield better results for better marketing mediums than others. I try to use that data to get the most out of our investment.

I really don't understand the "we have all the business we need" thought process myself. I am not trying to run a small 1/2 mil or 1 mil contracting business. I want to dominate my market. I want to be #1 and for the #2 to be so far behind me that they feel like they are a guy working out of the back of a pickup compared to my company. I will invest as much money as possible into marketing and when that pays off, I will invest even more.
