Do Yellow Pages Really Work?

I have registered with several famous yellow pages on line for the business of laminate flooring. But I didn't get any customer from them. Do yellow page really work?

My guess is for flooring.........probably not

We do siding, windows and sunrooms and our yellow page ads don't work.

They probably work very well for roofers & plumbers. Let's face it, if you have a leak you don't have the time to be getting referrals. You need someone now.

You can get a referral for Floors, siding, windows, sunrooms. You also have the time to go on line and research your project. To be honest with you, I couldn't even tell you where my phonebook is.

Re: Do Yellow Pages Really Work?

service businesses do well. we do septic and drains the majority of calls come from the yellow pages and the toilet is overflowing and aunt betsy is comming and the testament to that look at the competition in plumbing and septic catagories. notice the fight for the biggest ad. I was quoted $6800.00 a month for a full page color ad. thats retarded money! Currently I use display ads in 11 counties and 2 directories. The roi is excellent
no thank you I have a 1/8 pg in that directory
you are better off with a business card size ad just say something different and offer something different they will call

Re: Do Yellow Pages Really Work?

I think yellow pages could work great for any business if you have a good ad. Basically any ad is better than one designed by the YP salesman. I mean look at the ads in your book. 98% percent of them are EXACTLY the same. "Quality service" at the top then a list of services, with the name and number of the company in between.

I think you really have to come up with a interesting ad to get results.

If you can afford it, then go for it. I would do the local yellowpage advertising and the internet yellow pages. When a crisis like a plugged drain, I am going to look at the physical yellow pages, not online.

Seldom do I ever pick up the yellow pages anymore to find something, a company or whatever... Not when my cell phone or notebook are handy...

If you are in an area where your competition is advertising in it then you almost have to, one missed customer/client would have paid for the ad!

Re: Do Yellow Pages Really Work?

I Run two ads in the yellow pages. One in decking, there is only about 6 people in that category so I run an average size ad. Then I advertise in the remodeling contractor category, there are alot of people in that one, so a run a bigger ad with two colors.

I pay $140 Per month for both ads. I have not tracked all my calls but I get a fair amount of calls from the yellow page ads. Probably more from the deck ad.

This year I am going to run three ads. Two in the same spot and one in the handyman category. There are only 7 or 8 in the book right now. I have had smaller jobs lead me to much bigger jobs. So I figure it will be worth it.

So IMO for me the ads are well worth the price that I am paying.

Re: Do Yellow Pages Really Work?

This year I spent $6000 for a 1/4 page ad in Verizon under "painting" I spent $4000 on Yellowbook for 2 counties business card size. The good thing about Yellowbook is they give you a free ad under another section of the book.

Last year I did Verizon small text ad under painting and I got a few good jobs atleast 20k worth im hoping the 1/4 page will produce a lot more.

I got a friend in the contracting business he does half page in Yellow book hes pulls in 200k easy off the ad

I dont think yellow pages is good for laminate flooring I would go with direct mail

I used the YP yesterday for the first time in a couple of years: my truck broke down in my driveway and I needed a tow. I was in my local directory for years as a carpenter, maybe ten, and I think I got about three jobs in that time.

I get 30+ calls a week off the yp ad? I do septic systems and the yp are the #1 lead generator period about 75% and more than I can handle. Bal is referals and they are usually tire kickers shopping for the cheapest.

Re: Do Yellow Pages Really Work?

Back when I did remodel (commercial and residential) I ran a business card size ad in the YP's at $300/month (I quit this 10 years ago). I got a lot of crap calls, but the few good ones more than paid for the ad.

Some pepole want a major addition or remodel (both residential and commercial) and have no referrals to go with so they go to the book.

Re: Do Yellow Pages Really Work?

Whats funny is i find myself using the yellow pages alot. Half the time to is just for getting a phone number for a place i already deal with.

The key with the yp is that you really need to have an exceptional ad. When people get done looking through the painting, carpentry, etc section of the book they should say "I'd be an absolute fool do call anyone but xyz contracting".
