Distinctive Living?

Anybody else use this company for direct mailing? Not sure if it is area specific, or all over. Anyway, seems like a good investment. All high end income, resdentail only, one of two in the fencing category, and each advertiser recieves an advertisement as well as an editorial on your company.

What bugs me is that I recieved the rough draft for the editorial, and besides focusing on high end fences like PVC and aluminum, like the salesman and I discussed, it is all about wood fences. Also, half of the editorial is WOD FOR WOOD VERBATUM off of my website. This really irks me, especially since it is an old site, with the old company name.

Now this mailing isn't cheap to say the least. I assumed the writer would call or meet me to dicsuus my business and practices, not copy and paste. I mean, I'm no advertising specialist, this info from my site and first flyers is lowbudget, and I think that is obvious.

Or maybe I'm just being to hard on myself/the writer. Attached is a link to the draft; let me know what you think.

Thanks.

your children, pets, and belongings. The added privacy certainly is a plus, too.

Re: Distinctive Living?

I think it's pathetic.

not what you have on your website, but what you are getting from this company.

If you're they are providing the copy for you as a service, and just rip off what you have on your site, where else do you think they'll be cutting corners? Sure, anyone can say your mailing only goes out to high end customers.. but do you want to trust them if this is the initial results they bring you?

Also - is it only going out to single family homes? I'm guessing you don't do much work in condo developments (single units at least). Of course, you don't want to ask them that question - you want them to tell you that answer.

Re: Distinctive Living?

The mailings, I'm told, go out only to single family residential homes that have duel incomes of over $100,000. I sent an email to the writer and laid into him, as well as the saleman I've been working with. THey, of course, both apoligized, saying since he didn't know anything about my company, he just got whatever info he could, and since it was a rough draft neeeded my input. I just don't understand why he didn't call and ask some questions. I am sending he some info over the weekend on the business- probably just osme bullet type letter and let him figure out the wording. The deadline is a little over 2 weeks, and if he doesn't give me something promising I'll just have to cancel.

BTW, thanks for the reply Nets.

Re: Distinctive Living?

bcf,

Since this was just a first draft, I wouldn't jump to conclusions about why they rehashed your same copy from your website. Obviously, they must have gotten your site info from you first to show them what you are saying currently.

They are not even semi-educated or experienced about what type of work you do and what differentiates yoursef from your competition, so where else to get the first draft info from besides your pre-made site info. The guy probably was trying to correlate his new ad to be as similar as your existing marketing on your website.

Repetitive messages leave a more powerful trail for leads to flow through.

But, if they cannot assure you that they will be able to provide you with an expansion on your initial advertising message, maybe they are not creative or imaginitive enough to be worth the money spent.
