Cross Promo

anybody ever used cross promotion? i run a small painting company and i am good friends with the son of a major flooring chain owner. i have done work for his dad personally. he owns a chain of flooring stores that sell floors and install them.
if i could present a cross promotion scenario to him do u think it would benefit me at all. the presentation of the idea would defeinitely have to be top notch.
i was thinking something like with the installation of your new floor have the same room painted for $150.00 walls only of course.
might be a good way to get my name out and generate some new clients. chances are people will want ceilings and other rooms done as well
anyone ever had experience with this type of idea before?

Re: Cross Promo

Hmmm, well it really all depends on what you are trying to do.

Essentially a cross-over marketing scheme has to benefit both parties. Your chances of successfully signing up and getting buy-in with your cross promoting partner will go up if you can come up with the total package, which really needs to contain the other parties benefits to doing this with you, how it will work and how to carry it out.

What's in it for him?

It sounds more like you are really just desiring the store provide you with leads. That's not really a cross promotion.

Setting up a referral network of professionals who can service the same clients is a good idea. I routinely refer leads to plumbers and electricians for request from my customers for small jobs that don't require anything from me, I simply pass their name onto the subs I use and let them deal with the customer direct. I have also passed on 2 house painting jobs to a friend who owns a painting company.

It's supposed to be a back scratching exercise but unfortunately I'm so picky right now about who I do work for that I have never accepted any job from a professional referral in my network.

Part of building your reputation involves qualify and sorting out leads before you give them to somebody in your network. You won't be regarded too well if you just eagerly hand over every happenstance lead you come across to your buddies. But if you qualify the leads first and start handing out leads that have a high closing ratio built into them you look like a hero.
