Craigslist And Websites

Craigslist has the ranking most would never dream of "they sell every wigget in the book".....posting your site on this list will bring qualified browers to your website. Not a bad return for five minutes time posting a advertisement and FREE, even better....and it works for no ranking sites.....

Tell us a little more about your experiences. What did your ad say? How long did it take to get a response?

I think it's different for different areas

In Charlotte, no one really uses Craigslist.
AngiesList is far more popular down here.

We just got Craigslist for Ocala. We're listed, but not one call yet. But Google has found the listing, so it's all good.

Posting on the free sites is like the drywall taper who puts his card in boxes of unsold drywall mud at the HDepot, It get people to look at his site and gives them, more then a 1"x1" purchased advertisement could express. All for free

Re: Craigslist And Websites

craigslist is a mixed bag

I've listed household goods and car parts for sale and had great luck. I've purchased items with no issues. I'm on there all the time, mainly searching items for sale.

IMO, I feel like the only area that sucks on there is the skilled trade area! Every unlicensed shmo is offering there "I'll beat any estimate" prices. The other parts of the site are much better.

Craigslist is a great source of free advertising. Only problem is that you must place an ad every hour or so to stay on top...

Re: Craigslist And Websites

Craigs list is great I use it all the time. It's free. And for companies like me that are small, that is one of the few options.

Alot of craigslist users aren't aren't as serious as you would think

There are many trolls, and I have come across one guy that just doesnt stop emailing me. Some people are really creepy.

But i've gotten 4 jobs from craigslist, and that off sets the bad

Id love to try out more free sites, but not many like craigslist who gets alot of people viewing.

There is also alot of competition on craigs list. Seems like that are millions of contractors posting.

Re: Craigslist And Websites

I do not get that many jobs off of it. Lots of interest, but not much work. My opinon with it, is that it is free. But you have to be able to say no. You can usually tell who is legit by their first email. Too many people email me for a price on hardwoods. Thats all they ask. My reply is what kind, species, etc. Never hear from them again.

What has worked here for me has been area based email chatlists. Sponser them a few times ($11 week) so you get a top listing, do a good job and your name gets around.

What is a email based chatlist??

I do find the same thing with craigs list, alot of interest but not that many actual customers that will go forward with projects. But can't complain, it's free.

Re: Craigslist And Websites

An email based chatlist is a chatlist that is done through the email, instead of a message board. Usually they are very area specific, and the people involved want to be part of it.

I get an email anywhere from 4-6 times a week. People ask for advice on contractors, make annoucncements, sell things, talk politics, etc. Harder to find but worth it IMO.

Re: Craigslist And Websites

I placed an add including a link to my site on craigslist every morning before leaving for the day and again when I returned home. After a month of 0 inquieries I gave up. I know people who use it to buy things, but everyone I talk to here in MA think the contractors are scams and they say they wouldn't use it to find a contractor. Maybe people look at differently in other parts of the country.
