County Fairs???

I'm considering buying a booth for the local county fair. I hear about other contractors in other counties setting up a booth at local county fairs. I will most likely focus on our exterior remodeling (roof, siding, windows).

Has anyone had success with this? Did you man the booth the entire week or did you send out your salespeople/canvassers? Did you have any give aways/ prizes to pull them in?

Re: County Fairs???

We're a siding, roofing, window and sunroom company and although we stick primarily with home shows, we have in the past set up our display at area fairs. The good thing about doing fairs is the fact most of them rent the space soley on "frontage"--so if you have a 10x 20 display, your only paying x amount of dollars for 20 feet of frontage (the last fair we did was only $20.00 a foot, so how can you beat $400 for a 10x20 space for a 10 day fair?)

Another thing to ponder is wether or not they require the spot to be manned all of the hours the fair is open,..Some do, some don't. I've seen Newpro set up at various fairs here in the New England area, and all they have is a large glass bowl with sign-up pads/pens everywhere. But again, then you have an outfit like Penguin who staffs there booth 100% of the time.

My thoughts are if you want and expect results, put in some hours and start shaking hands and kissing babies.

Good Luck!
