Copyrights & Trademarks

What method do you use to copyright your website/photos, literature, logos, Company name etc?

Do you file your own copyrights or use an attorney or other service? I have a couple things I want to protect and am not sure of the most econmical/efficient method to use.

TIA

Re: Copyrights & Trademarks

Websites, photos and literature are copyrighted automatically at the time of creation.

Logos and company names are different and may or may not be able to be copyrighted or more specifically service marked and registered.

Do an Internet search for logo & service marks and company names and registering with your state, for more info then look at national protection for company names. The national protection usually takes a lawyer, the rest are all doable by yourself on the local level which is usually all you will ever require unless you have really big plans.

Re: Copyrights & Trademarks

They are technically copyrighted when created and put into a tangible form, but should be marked "copyright 2007 by MyEntity Corp (or whatever your company is)"

Registering the copyright provides additional protection under the law, and depending on how valuable the intellectual property is, may be recommended
The cost can vary, but can be less than $60 (IIRC)

Trademarking names and logos costs a bit more
$350 - $625 depending on what your are doing and needing
(most of this cost is for The Search to make sure no one else has a claim to it)

These all can be DIYed
But depending on the stakes, it may be a good idea to have a professional do it
