Re: Coffee Cup Advertising

The point made above about coffee shops serving customers who live in their area is an important one to remember. If you target an area where your remodeling services are more likely to sell, you have solved one of the problems with your idea. The other is longevity and the point made about it requiring 7 exposures to create a sale. Before addressing that problem, I would suggest another task.

For this to work, the coffee shop owners will need to be willing to accept your advertising. You need to be sure they will before making the investment, and under what conditions. I applaud your cross promotional thinking, and unlike others here, I believe you can make this work if you do it right.

Now, if the coffee shop owners are willing to accept your idea, I would take it a step further. Include an offer to give away coffee gift cards (such as 10 free coffees on a punch card) from the coffee shop on your web site. Decide how many of these cards you want to give away and have people register on your site to win them (if it's legal in your area).

Everyone that registers can be added to a mailing list, but you want to be sure not to "sell" them with your mailings. Make your mailing informative so that the "opt-out" rate will be low. Remind them they can still win next month by staying on your mailiing list. Your "information" can include things like how certain lighting reduces the chance of break-ins and could lower their homeowners insurance rates. This way you keep your name in their mind month after month, build a bigger mailing list over time, and increase your sales just through long term exposure when they do need your services.

If you can add an incentive for people to call, then you build your idea even stronger. One idea for an incentive is, "Use your coffee shop receipt and get a free winterizing kit when we quote any remodeling project." You can use your imagination for a suitable incentive.

Now you get traffic to your site, build a list of potential customers to stay in contact with, and increase the motivation for people to call you. I believe that will make your idea pay a very good ROI. Just be sure you hire a good writer to do your mailings and a good web designer to revamp your site. That bright red needs to go.

Re: Coffee Cup Advertising

It's all about P&L. I try to stay "free" meaning doing everything on my own and exhausting it to the point where I can't exhaust any longer in terms of spending any money.

If you had a surplus of cash that you didn't necessarily need I think it's a smart tactic but not necessarily a cost effective one.

I thought I would add something about the "mailing list" mentioned above in case it might be misunderstood. I was referring to an email mailing list. This way you can link the email directly back to your site and every time you can get someone to visit increases the chance of a sale. Plus, sometimes the information you share with them might be on another web site. You can link your email directly to a credible source on the Internet adding even more value to the information.
