Church Bulletins

This one may have been hit in the head before, but
Anyone have any committed church bulletin advertisements done over a span of time greater than 3 months?

We're thinking of adding that and tv spots to our marketing plan this year for 08.

The thing is me and the wife go to 3 different churches and their parents go to their church pretty much every day. We get a good volume of referrals just from word of mouth between people.
I don't know if I really want the extra overhead of church bulletins.

We may scrap church bulletins and go for breakfast placemat advertising in a couple local diners.

Just wanting to see if anyone had experienc, and how it turned out.

Re: Church Bulletins

Matt, We've done quite a few church bulletins and had real good results. I came from a big catholic family and we have a lot of catholic churches here. They all have weekly bulletins, so I would pick an area I wanted to get some leads from and hit that for a year and then move around. The add cost was only $350.00 for the entire year. My wifes Luthern and they didn't have bulletins,so whenever they need sponsors for basketball camps or whenever they did t-shirts I made sure my logo was included (plus my donations). You just need to be careful and make sure you do good follow-up and good work because they are people you regularly see and the benefits of their referrals can be ten-fold. It's funny you mention placemats, because me and the wife had lunch at a very busy locally owned resturaunt yesturday and their mats were advertising mats and I took one to look into it.

Only advertising in catholic church's you'll miss the Asian market. You'll have to do the menu advertisements at the Indian and Chinese restaurants.

What about he Irish ?

There comes a point in time where you just need to decide who you want to work for, and target them. You could also probably advertise in the local gay and lesbian newspaper and get good results, if you care to serve that market. You can't win them all.

Re: Church Bulletins

Well we're adding church bulletins in 5 different churches around the area and doing placemats in two diners in the area.

We're dropping trade magazine publication. They're just calls for employment and low ballers shopping around.

Is there already an existing "What's your Marketing Plan" thread here on CT?

Re: Church Bulletins

we're also dropping yellow page ads
last year we did 1/4 page ads in 3 different phone books under 3 different category headings and earned a whopping 4 phone calls all year from those ads
Never again

Re: Church Bulletins

I guess I'm surprised that some churches have business ads in their bulletins. I would think that would turn off a lot of people. But I guess the folks that would be turned off wouldn't be going to churches with business ads.
