Catchy Name/Tagline For A New Custom Builder Company
I am getting ready to open a custom home construction company and need help with a catchy name, and tag line. I live on the coast and everyone uses "Tide, Marsh, Palm this or that, Blue Line" etc... Not many builders use their last name for some reason?!?!?! Maybe you guys could enlighten me as to why?
I want something different. My last name is BIGGERS which could be cool I guess. I want to be high end and some of those guys here take 2 off the wall names for their company name like......."Benjamin Gadson Fine Homes" with the owner being John Gadson. I also need a tag line for my marketing package. We will be a small company building only about 4-7 custom specs a year. I look forward to your creative thoughts and comments.....Thanks! |

Re: Catchy Name/Tagline For A New Custom Builder Company
couple of things to keep in mind when using your name for business.
1. If something ever happens and you have to close up shop and open under a new name... Guess what? Even if the company name is now "marsh custom homes" when they meet Mr. Biggers they will say "was that the guy who (whatever) and had to close down?" 2. It ties you to the business. People have differant expectations for differant roles in the company. It may not always be best for someone (maybe not a customer, but maybe sales people, etc) to know you are the owner just by introducing yourself.

Re: Catchy Name/Tagline For A New Custom Builder Company
Using your name as a company name puts you out there. Some customers like to know that the company is not an ABC company and that it is owned by a person. Some customers get a familiarity with the name as though they know the owner personally because they have read the company history. It is all marketing, you do with it what you will and supply the customer with the name and what it means to the company….the customer is only going to get what you give them…any descriptive word works if you are looking to bring in the romantic types “Candle Light Homes” “let the light of our candle bring you home” if it is your name it could be “Jamie Jones Homes” “our family of craftsman are building with pride”

Also, image is really important to the high end market and you don't usually want to portray your self as the guy who is swinging the hammer so it can be useful to be able to introduce yourself in different roles. Maybe you're the salesman to some. The PM to others. The owner to a few. If your name is the companies name then you'll always be the owner, even when you're hauling trash. I'd think of something easy to spell and simple to remember so they can google you easily. Plus kinda generic is good because then you can play on other names association. Over hear there's a lot of Pacifics ********* and people kinda say "I've heard of you before" even if you're brand, new just because it's familiar. |

Re: Catchy Name/Tagline For A New Custom Builder Company
sorry i picked kind of a generic name myself because it gets you away from being the owner and if you ever wanted to sell then your name isnt tied to your company.i do alot of different stuff so i wanted a name to cover everything

Re: Catchy Name/Tagline For A New Custom Builder Company
Here's mine, kind of close to your Navigators. I know there are probably a lot of "Northstar's" out there, but you know what, there are a lot of everthings everywhere when you think about it, in every industry. As some others have said, I feel a certain extent of generic is good. On another note, does anyone have any experience with trademarking your name or slogan or use in your direct area? Or has anyone had any issues with this? If you need someone to do the final design work on your logo, let me know the guy that helped me out is really good.
