Re: Canvassing

Hey vinyl guy,
I got to tell you that I have not been out in the field canvassing myself since November. I train in the office and motivate my guys all day long. I know you know this works, but it works really good if you have a great manager. My end of the day count was 37 for tues and 26 for monday. I can not see any reason we will not write over 100 for the week. You know the numbers, there are deals in there.....

Re: Canvassing

I will say again and again, this is the best lead there is. We are pacing at least 30 raw leads per day. Some people say that this don't work for them. I say that this can work for anyone in the remodeling industry. It's all about following a system. You get what you expect.

Re: Canvassing

those of you that have been paying attention. 182 last week and 140 this week. The key to finding motivated people is being motivated yourself. There is nothing hard about this. If you think you can, you are right. If you think you can't, you are right.

Re: Canvassing

what type of employee excells at canvassing? I used to do my own when I first started out but its easy to sell yourself, but more difficult to get someone to do it for you.

Are you in the field with them or do you have a super?
What is your closing % on these leads?

I can tell you have a passion for this, so any more info you can give it will be appreciated.

Re: Canvassing

I am not in the field with my guys. I do comunicate with all day. I would say we close about 30-40 percent. It depends on the rep.Any employee that you hire specifically for this job will work. Age groups can be 19-60 yrs old. Must be a people person. If you did this before, think about multiplying your numbers. Good luck.

Re: Canvassing

Well I sent a guy out to do some canvassing, i put a little spin on it though.
He was given a survey with 4 questions to ask homeowners about home improvement, and was instructed to carry this out as if he was only looking to have the survey completed and then at the end casually ask if they would like an estimate for X service. 3 leads in 3 hrs. not bad. think this is going to be a good thing.

Re: Canvassing

How do you find reliable people to do this?

I can see where using people with construction experiance would be helpful, how can i trust someone to represent my company that i don't really know.

Young people? College students? Trustworthy is the question on this. I mean pay someone to canvas for me on an hourly scale that i may not get any true leads from. This is a big risk with honest service for time if i am not right beside them. Advice guys!

I don't know where in Jersey he is, but in this part of the state, you ring on doors, and you will have a clean cell, for the night and a date with the judge.

The window manufactures, send out window replacement deals, in the mail twice a year, or more, they get leads, then pass them on to the local dealers. No need to replace the wheel. our area replacement contractors are busy year round.

The dealers pay a small fee to be in the manufacture lead programs.

Re: Canvassing

I understand that every city or borough can have an oridance about going door to door. I dissagree with their local laws. The United States Supreme Court has rulled on this issue. Thank god, it will probablly take forever to get it back to them again. You should read my post on this. If you want to go and knock on somesones door this is not against the law. Remember canvassing is about getting free information to potential customers and not trying to sell them something at the door.

Re: Canvassing

Hey WPC07834,
I have read all your posts regarding this canvassing matter, and I believe that this could be a bombshell for my business. Can you answer a few questions please?

1) If you are an employee of the company, how much do they pay you for the leads? $100.00 ? $50.00 ?. What is your take. I know that you posted that you pay your employees $10.00hr and $10.00 a lead.

2) If I were going to do this, I would have to hire a manager to run this operation. What is the current pay rate for something like this?

3) Is it as easy as you say it is to hire canvassers? and if so, what is your best employee referral from? ie. Newspapers, Internet, Head Hunters?

4) How long does it take to build a team large enough to bring in the numbers that you have posted?

5) Do you think that if I hired 1 motivated sales manager type, that he could alone start this program for me, hire about 10 people right off the bat and get this thing in the air at first try? And if not, please let me know why.

6) What about expenses. Am I the owner eating all the expenses, such as Gas, Mileage, Insurance, etc. Please explain how they are paid out?

7) Do you pay your people for every lead that they bring you back? If not, can you explain how you get away without paying for their efforts.

I thank you for all your input. I will probably have more questions to follow, but these will get my program running right away.

Thanks again,
Stan the Man

Canvassing

What a topic. You guys are my heros. I haven't heard that word for years. Would you send some of your people over to my construction software business. We could use some real sales people and lead generators in our industry.

Re: Canvassing

hey gutterguy,
This is the best form of marketing there is. I would be happy to answer those questions. The best way is to use the internet for recruiting. The managers full time job should be running this program. I generated a boat load of sales this past month. I was told it was the biggest in the history of the company. This was the perfect way to start out for January. If I told you how much good bussiness my lead generation resulted in sales you would not believe me. When hiring people you should have a base pay per hour and a bonus for each lead that you write. I can put a team together in 1 -2 weeks. From then on it will grow as fast as you want it too. You can email me for further info. wpchere2day

Re: Canvassing

What is your leads cost? A canvass program can be around 10%. I belive that you can run your whole program for this. I do not pay for bogus leads. If you write out a ad and be very descriptive as to what you are looking for, I would then place this on the internet. If you are going to start a program, I would recomend that you do not hire too many people to fast. 4 should be a good start. You should be able to get a lead every 1 to 2 hours you work them.
