Re: Canvassing

This past week ending 12/21/07 my guys wrote 107 canvass leads for the week. I need to develop a stronger telemarketing manager and sales people. I like Vinyl guys idea about having the leads called in from the field. I expect to have a burn issue on these leads about 40%, but still if I can issue 60% of the leads it will be great.

Re: Canvassing

I just wanted to ad something about the laws of canvassing. It is my understanding that this is not illegal according to the U.S Supreme Court. I am including some info I copied from the web.One of my guys got a ticket the other day for soliciatation without a permit. I intend to fight this, even though the ticket is only $50.00. We wrote at least 50 leads in that town. So far we have a total of 32k worth of sales from that place. We still have more leads to work through. Those of you that believe canvassing works and are using it, I would like to hear how you feel about this ordinace requiring a permit.

The Supreme Court ruled on June 17 that a Stratton, Ohio ordinance,
which requires those going door-to-door to obtain a permit and to
identify themselves prior to and during petitioning, violates the
right of anonymity inherent in the First Amendment freedom of speech.
The Court determined 8-1 that free speech includes the right to take a
message or idea directly to someone's door, and that this right cannot
be limited by a requirement to pre-register by name. The Court stated:

[I]t is offensive, not only to the values protected by the
First Amendment, but to the very notion of a free society,
that in the context of everyday public discourse a citizen
must first inform the government of her desire to speak to
her neighbors and then obtain a permit to do so.

Re: Canvassing

I learned a trick from people like the mail man, the ups guys, and so on.. If you have dogs that you are worried about, try carrying dog treats. Remember a dog is mans best friend. Its better to ask if you can give a dog a treat. If they say yes, you can engage in conversation, which may bring you to a good lead.

Re: Canvassing

I just wanted to say that since I started this canvassing program at our company, it has become the number one lead source. We now have daytime leads, which has been a difficult time to get leads out. We canvass during the day, so we find people that are home during the day. This means that we can give any rep 2 leads per day without any problems. We are pacing 1 million in sales for the month of January just for canvass leads. I believe this is the very best lead out there.

That is awesome.

You have canvassers working 9-5 catching stay at homers, retired, work from home people, etc?

Do you still get 1 lead per hour during this time of day? What is the age of your average canvasser?

I think this is a very cost effective way to get business. $20/lead is incredible. $10/hr + $10/lead in that hour.

I have done alot of canvassing when I worked for a different company, but now that I own my own company we have not done that type of marketing, although I am really thinking about getting back into it... I would love to chat with you more about it. I can be reached at ethan AT 89paint.com if you are interested.

Thanks

Re: Canvassing

The age of my canvasser is between 20-36. It was pouring down rain on thursday and yet we wrote 29 leads that day. This bussiness is all about ATTITUDE. I have leads every day that are canvass going out. It looks like we had a 100k saturday. I believe my system is the best for getting leads.

Many times, there will be a sign on the mailbox post, about the invisible fence. I noticed one, last spring, as I was putting out door hangers. Sure enough, a golden retriever came out at me, wanted a chunk of my ... leg.
I was ready for him, I had gone to wal-mart, and purchased a small air horn, looks like a spray can. I honked it at him, while I carefully backed out of the yard. Best 5 bucks I spent all spring. Much cheaper than an emergency room visit for stitches.

Re: Canvassing

I bet you probablly did not get the lead there either. What is the point on just putting door hangers out? I thought it was to get the leads. Although this might be funny to some, hope none of the neighbors saw you do this. Today My lead count was 21. I have to manage the negitive attitudes on my crews. I find that splitting up my guys in teams of 2 or 3 works well. I am most interested in how people that do canvassing deal with the permit issue.

No, I never made it to the door. But, I did make it out of the yard without loosing any blood. Why do you hope the neighbors didn't see me?

The point of door hangers? To inform people of my service, of course, and to direct them to my website.
What is your method? Knock on the door, every time? Sounds very time consuming, but it seems to work very well for you.

As a direct result of knocking on doors today, I set my record. 45 canvass leads. Several appts went out tonight and more tommorow. I am hoping fo a 100k saturday. Stay tuned and I will let you know. Attitude management is the key. Think positive and positive things will happen.

Re: Canvassing

wpc07834,

I see your in northern NJ. Do you have more success in developments or neighborhoods. The reason I ask is I service the Hudson Valley and we have both, however, the developments seem to work well with signage ie: closet organizers, painting, carpentry, once I start working in an area I'll put up a job sign.

Following this thread, I can't help but feel I've been missing out on so many more leads. I'm going give it a shot on the next warm day we get.

Got any pointers.

Although I might appreciate your effort, at this point were in your neighborhood and just wanted to let you know about us. I would politely respond "thank you, I am not interested" and the door would close without waiting for you to say another word.
