Re: Blogging

Thanks for the help guys. I'll work on the wordpress stuff tonight.

In the interim, I still don't know how to have my site clickable in my posts here.

I created a signature at one point, but now I can't even edit that signature.

Re: Blogging

Here's a blog I just started 24 hours ago. http://www.atlantaroofingrepair.com I'm still working on it but feel free to leave a comment or question on the 3 articles I've already posted! = )

Why and how I'm using the blog will remain a mystery though.

PS: Right click on the screen for a surprise bonus!

Re: Blogging

Good advice about blogging. It's nice to know I'm not the only one out there. I must say there are some pretty nice blogs listed in this discussion. Here's the link to mine I created last month. It's nothing impressive, but it's on the way I suppose. http://nickshomeworksolutions.blogspot.com/ I also came across http://technorati.com but I don't really know what that's supposed to do. I registered my blog with them and that was about it. The list of 57 tips was a good post from Chris G. Anyway, got any tips to make the blog more viewer friendly?

Re: Blogging

Moderator, can you assist?

Is there something wrong with the way my login is set up or the way that I post that doesn't allow me to post links or have a clickable link in my signature.

I saw that someone had said you needed a minimum number of posts, but now I see people who are able to post a clickable link that have fewer posts than I do.

Sorry to whine, but this is really confusing me.

This thread created a little work for me -- I've set several permalinks and sense there will be quite a few more before we are finished.

Ridgewalker, I really like the new picture (and the articles)! Glad you kept the right click; makes me grin everytime. (although it should be "loser" unless you want someone to get a saggy copy. )

Re: Blogging

I posted a simple question looking for a few suggestions that I thought would refer me to websites with technical data and information. Instead, with only 32 replies, I have received invaluable simple techniques, support, advice, and new contacts in my network. Special thanks to Publisher1, KitchenSync, Upscale and Silvertree. I would be remiss not to mention Contractor Talk, without them, immediate success in moving up in the search engine world would not have been possible.

Regards,

Ned Overton

Re: Blogging

What is the point of doing a separate blog site instead of just having your blog articles as articles on your website?

Is it cause doing them is easier with a blog cause the blog software takes care of everything or is there some other reason?

Seems to me having it all on your website makes more sense if you have the ability to do that.

Re: Blogging

It's much easier to update a blog than it is a website. You can create a blog in one minute, and a blog post in less than that.

The immediacy also more attractive and resonant to readers I believe. More up to date if you will.

Also, blogs allow for comments and dialogue. And even if you're interacting with an anonymous person on another continent, and not a client, it does establish you as a living and breathing soul who can answer a question thoughtfully.

Re: Blogging

So if you could do all that on your own website that would be the choice? It just comes down to the blogging sites software and not the choice to have a totally separte blog site?

Re: Blogging

A lot of people just include a button on their site that links to the blog. That way it pretty much functions like a page on your site, (although technically you are leaving your web site, and you will need to use the browser back button to return from a blog page).

Some organizations with deep pockets will have blog pages entirely integrated into their site, but I think there is some tricky workarounds to be had, because a blog site is live, much like this forum, and a website is static, and only changes when someone publishes new information through ftp. So i"m sure there technicalities with marrying the two. They are updated by different methods.

Most news organizations don't use third party software like Blogger, (which is free and widely used).
