A Better Web Site

I'm looking for some advice on who I can hire to build a better web site. I'm booked till late spring and I want to redo are site over the next few months so that it's ready to go right after the Holidays.

I would like to see a floor plan of sorts for the home page navigation with different titles for each room. Some soft jazz playing in the background (uninterrupted if you change the pages), slide shows in our galleries and so on.

I've seen a lot of folks here complaining about how long some of these designers can take to get the job done so I'm asking for some advice on who can get this done in a timely manner and get it done right.

Thanks!

That site is really cool looking.

A word of caution:

When you see a page with a "Start Here" homepage, and then fancy Flash graphics, keep in mind that type of functionality kills you in your Google indexing.

You can incorporate that stuff into a site that's optimized for search engine results, but it needs to be done differently than that particular site if you're interested in getting traffic from the search engines instead of just from the business cards you hand out. Make sense?

Good luck, my friend.

Yup, makes perfect sense. Are the things I mentioned possible without killing my ranking?

I like the music and the floor plan idea for navigation.

I want a classy looking web site that would get a more high end responce.

Yes those things are possible. I have some opinions about a couple of your ideas as far as their impact on whether your site will make sales at the expense of design.

But all your ideas are feasible. It's just a matter of building them into a well functioning site, rather than building a flashy site and then struggling to make it convert your visitors into customers (or even get any visitors.)

A "high end" feel is very achievable. Just remember to build it around functionality.

Cool ideas.

I see nothing wrong with your site. Your logo may need some work to just clean it, music always scare me to bits when I hit a page that has it. Your source code seems to be in order. You have content that directs the customer in the direction you want them to go with your content, a couple of pictures and maybe justifying the paragraphs would make it all look balanced.

www.flortechardwood.net
A large blank area in the center and print too small to read. The other 2 looked nice.

"I'm thinking something similar to 'this site'." Hmmm Nothing there. A couple of balnk boxes. Why do a site like that?

Re: A Better Web Site

May I suggest that although you may like some features (like music) potential customers may be turned off to it and quickly flee.

You need to play to EVERYONE, not just your preferences.

It's hard enough designing a site whose graphics and navigation will project your business favorably to all, but something as personal as music can potentially be a liability.

I suggest that you do some research on whoever you get to do it. There are a lot of guys out there that are so called designers but you don't really get a lot for your money. Make sure to look at the work they have done. It will give you a better idea of what they are capable of and if they can do what you ask as well as an idea of the quality of their work. We specialize in marketing for Contractors and builders all over the country and I'd be glad to produce some links to things we have done. I hope you find what you are looking for!
