Bad Boys--on-line Lead Services
http://www.pellastore.com/ This link brings to a BS web page where on-line lead services run ads. I always wondered why when I call some on-line leads they say "the web-site said you sold_____". SO, now I know, they run deceiving ads!

Re: Bad Boys--on-line Lead Services
These are parked pages. What happens is some "domainer" will buy a few thousand domains (sometimes 10's of thousands) and park them on pages like this. He then get's paid per click on the ads.
So, what you are seeing is contextual ads from someone like Google or Yahoo on a landing page. They are just there to make money off you. They dont actually sell leads.

If it is the lead services that are picking keywords that do not match what their vendors are selling then that is just bad. It would be like you paying for leads for people looking for a contractor chat room and they run your ad under gay chat rooms. You would be paying for leads when people might not want your product because they were mis-lead by an ad. |

Re: Bad Boys--on-line Lead Services
I don't see any real attempt at deception here. It looks more like a situation of catching the impulse buyer at just the right moment of (in)decision. If anyone thought they were at a Pella website, they should spend a little more time online before buying anything.
This is sort of like buying a billboard right next to your biggest competitor's store. Fair game IMO.

Well this would be right along the same lines, I totally agree. And you know what? Some contractors are gay so it would probably work. It would offend some people but those aren't the chosen audience so the advertiser probably doesn't care.

Re: Bad Boys--on-line Lead Services
These sites have pained me for years. Here's how it works...
I. I buy a domain name that might be popular (pellastore.com workign off the window company name obviously) II. I place "ads" on my sites of third parties. III. The third party company gets paid from advertisers by driving traffic to the advertiers website. So let's say they make 50 cents per click. The "parked domain" owner may get 20 cents of the 50 for sending the click. The problem is that there are lots automated click scripts and such that can falsify real clicks. In other words... the advertiser gets screwed... and the other two make money. Last edited by DamionR; 01-19-2007 at 12:30 AM. |

Re: Bad Boys--on-line Lead Services
My reason for this thread was not clear. When I hire a lead generation company to get me leads for window installs, I want leads for window installs. When they advertise on a pella site, someone who clicks from that site is looking for pella windows. Instead of looking for windows, they are looking for pella windows. So I pay $35 or so for a lead and when I call they want pella windows---"we signed up for pella windows". I do not want to pay for this type of lead generation unless I sell pella windows. Now if I sold brand x windows and they ran ads on brand x sites that would be fine.
