Article, Body Language: A Key To Success In The Workplace

Due to Mike investigating some out of the box analysis of customer behaviors earlier today, I felt this would be an appropriate add on article to review.

That brought up memories of when we used to use mirroring techniques with people to get them in sync with us during a sale.

Body language to me is most apparent at the beginning of a sales meeting with somebody, I pretty much always pick up on it in the beginning and make automatic mental notes as I notice them warming and syncing with me, after that I pretty much don't notice much, and then again toward the end I will start watching again.

Reading body language, watching their eyes, watching how a couple talks and responds to what each is saying and especially the structure of their phrasing, I've gotten to the point where I'm pretty much about 80% right on about how most presentations go.

They can say anything they like, anything can come out of their mouths at the end of a meeting, it really doesn't matter what the words are or what they think they are saying, at that point they can say we will call you tomorrow with our decision and I'm about 80% effective on knowing what their decision already is.

How about this technique......analyzing their conversation on the phone. I have about a 99% idea if they are going with me before I even meet with them.

I worked in the nightclub and entertainment industry for 7 years. I worked with a lot of actors/actresses, athletes, powerfull and influential people, criminals, promoters and been in a position where I met and interacted with a lot of people.

You learn a lot by simply watching people. You really learn how to read people. They say the eyes are windows to the soul. If you learn how to read people, you can manipulate them...fact.

It helps you everytime you meet someone. It's helped me with women. A girl could say whatever she wants, I'm just reading her and thinking . It has even saved my life a number of times.

If you understand people, you learn to manipulate them. I'm a big guy and I could make myself come off strong and put out an aura of intimadation through my body language, eye contact, tone of voice, words I choose, or I could come off as unsure, hesitant, weak, insecure. It's whatever the situation requires. It's applications as a business owner are endless. Very very important, good post.

I'm a small woman and have heard repeatedly over the course of my life when someone gets right next to me, "You're so *little*!" Body language is everything.

Mirroring techniques are great for rapport building. You also have to control the conversation. A couple of valuable lessons I have learned over the years:

The eyes say everything. When I smile, I make sure my eyes crinkle. That's the sign that tells people your smile is authentic. I am more likely to smile with my eyes than my mouth, and always put people at ease that way.

Another thing I do when I want people to agree with me is nod my head slightly. I continue nodding whenever I want affirmation. It's subtle and works great.

The tone at which people say things..the way they say things and the questions they ask..tells me weather I have a good shot at getting the job.
