Angies list or Yelp "rebate" to homeowners?

So what do you think about offering a rebate or a free one year checkup for homeowners who give you a review on Angie's list or Yelp at the end of the job. If you could present it in a way that didn't seem to cheesy. Everyone goes on line to check a company out before doing business with them.
Sometimes its hard or awkward to ask for that review. Then folks who say they will do it sometimes never get around to it. Just maybe a little bribe? ha Or maybe a 20.00 visa gift card? Thoughts?

I believe it is still worth it. Many people go directly to Yelp (and other review sites) to read reviews.

Google Places still links to third-party reviews ("Reviews from around the web" in tiny print at the bottom of the page), but they certainly don't give them the attention they once did.

So focusing on Google Places reviews is a good idea. (http://www.google.com/support/places/bin/answer.py?answer=65452)

Encouraging your clients to write reviews by offering them some sort of incentive is a very good idea.

Let's face it, people are busy. Even if they were thrilled with your service, it simply might not occur to them to post an online review... unless you prompt them to do so. Sometimes all you have to do is ask (without any incentive).

But something like a $10 Starbucks gift card "as a thank-you for taking the time to let us know how we did" will get more results.

Just make sure you don't explicitly ask them to leave a "positive" review. You should encourage honest reviews, and make it clear that they'll receive the incentive even if their review is negative.

The "law of reciprocity" will do wonders. ;)
