Am I In The Wrong? Stinkin Internet Lead Generators!

I received a lead from WCVLeads and as soon as I get them I immediately start calling the HO.
Well for over 2 weeks I tried to get ahold of the HO by way of phone and emails, left messages. I called 10 -12 times and a couple of times I didn't even leave a message.

So after 2 weeks or more, I requested a refund for not being able to contact the HO. WCV LEADS didn't respond with any correspondence until the night before last I resubmitted my refund request and got a reply today indicating that I would not be refunded.
Supposedly, after they receive an inquirey they call the HO to confirm. They stated they indeed spoke to the HO and the HO did request an estimate.

So here I am not able to talk to the HO and lost the $40 to... a little pissed off. I feel like I've been screwed.... I canceled my service with WCV so am I in the wrong... or did I simply get made a fool of by paying those YAKS my hard to come by money.

They seem to all be a joke, I have no experience with that specific one, but have had similar experiences with others.

They generated money for themselves. You contributed.

Did you expect something in return? I think out of 20-30 clients from this site, 1-2 are at least somewhat happy. The rest?

It sounds to me they aren't all that much interested in long-term business from you... $40 isn't that much money and it sounds like they sort of took it and ran. Multiply that by 1000 other contractors and you can see how they make money!

At the very least they should offer you a replacement lead. Anyone at all confident and competent in their lead generation ability would offer this in my own humble opinion.

i can tell you that it costs more then $160 to generate a confirmed lead for construction. if i sell it to 4 companies for $40 each i still lose money.

if you want good leads you need to generate them yourself or pay more per lead

Bingo!!! Put yourself in the drivers seat... Then only YOU are responsible for the quality and quantity of leads you receive. At $40 each, let's say you bought 100 of them over about 6 months. That's $4000 out the door that could have been invested into a website and marketing to keep you going for most of the year.

What all you guys that buy these leads should do is just make the page these lead companies do. It is just as simple fill out your information Mr Potential Customer and we get you a free estimate.

Try contacting Carl (guy who posts on here a lot) about making you a page that does this off your current site. He probably knows the page type and keyword type these companies use to get the leads. Then head up a PPC campaign for those keywords, use the google keyword tools and experiment with keywords and NEGATIVE keywords until you start getting hits on that page. Personally I would farm out the PPC campaign to a good SEO/Web guy. I have been running a PPC campaign for ahwile now, and it is not easy. It is a huge learning curve, and the only way to get the experience is to pay for it through clicks. Plus, getting the experience is a lose of time.

PPC is expensive, and if it is part of a campaign it should only be a portion, with other segments including organic traffic stimulation (social networking sites, some blackhat tactics), link building, and plain old word of mouth marketing.
You would be surprised what you can do with some time, a SEo tutorial and a few hundred bucks. Meanwhile, payperclick charges you for a click, but theres no guarantee of a conversion (i.e. a customer buying something or hiring you for a job).
Be wary of SEO/Webmaster services, in general, a Webmaster has little to no real experience in SEO (they say they do, but they don't).
You can pay some kid 200 bucks to design you a website, just follow simple rules to allow search engines to spider you, then submit to some directories (especially local ones), and work to get other sites (.edu, .org, old .coms) to link to you.
Yada yada, i could just go on, if you have any questions, hit me up.
