Re: Adwords Experiment

I have both google and yahoo PPC accounts set up. What is really neat is that when a weather condition or other situation occurs you can get an ad up and running in less then 15 minutes. I did this a few weeks back with a heavy snow storm. Set up a quick campaign and was being seen in minutes.
I was getting calls for people to snow blow there driveways. Got about 8 clicks at .58 cents each. Did 5 jobs for about $225 total til belt broke on blower. This is not a key part of my business but I did want to see how fast you could get ads out to the public. I will consider this technique if storms hit certin areas.

Re: Adwords Experiment

Rory,

I dont mind spending 5-10% on advertising. I guess I am a bit timid on the PPC right now since I never went on an estimate from it. I have all the confidence in the world to go and sell jobs. I am trying to be confident in the ppc. I wish I had 8 jobs going at a time like you. We typically have two to three jobs and our average job although i havent figured it out lately has to be between 80,000 and a 100,000 and most of them are over a 100,000. Ill let u guys know if I got any calls.

I hear you. I have spent $280 from dec 22-27 on google alone for ppc and not a single call or email. But all my advertising is still running and I really don't expect to get any calls till after new years but I keep my name out in front customers and assume they are gathering info and the calls will come in after the new year.

You have put it through the test of time and most advertising does take time and repetition. I could definetly tell the difference in interest with the broader key words. One word I put in yesterday has gotten 800 impressions today.

This means nothing if they are not searching for what you are selling. Refer to my post above about yo-gi-oh decks or card decks. I have started taking my keywords with the most impressions & using the negative keyword tool on them. So now, if someone searches for "yo-gi-oh decks" I will not show up. Hopefully, all my impressions are coming from people searching for decks that are wood or composite structures on their homes, not some 12 year old researching a game.

Re: Adwords Experiment

I punched up my local areas to target and they kept going back to nationwide or united states. I showed the google rep and they credited my account. Just a heads up if you are targeting a certain area make sure it worked go into edit target area and make sure it is what it should be.

Yeah, we haven't had an email in a week, only 3 in the entire month of December, but it's the season. Nobody is doing anything they don't have to do over the holidays.

Really hoping they don't call until after the new year anyway I am on vacation. Office is empty and the answering service is on.

Re: Adwords Experiment

RBS, what are you using to judge what the conversion rate is? Do you want people to call you or email you. I would suggest creating a custom landing page so that you capture their info, also you should add google analytics on your website. It intergrates with adwords and helps you optimize your site, track hits and its free.

Re: Adwords Experiment

Porkchop

I use adwords and google analystics to track conversion rates. It also help me to realize how popular my website organic listing was and scale back on adwords a bit. I get 30-40 percent of my clicks through organic listings for 4-5 very poplular search terms.

I prefer the emails so I can get a feel for what type of work and budgets they are working with so I can be prepared when I call them back.

I have a estimate request page and it seems to work well. But I am going to have my website re done soon. I did the original one 6 or 7 years ago and have only made minor adjustments. It is way over do for an overhaul.

Re: Adwords Experiment

RBS you are correct from a second look i see the google code at the top of the page (it is normally at the bottom, my error)

If you are spending $280 a week on adwords and not getting any emails from it, re doing your website sounds like a good investment.

I have a friend who owns a printing company and was getting great traffic to his website. The conversion rate from people who visited to purchases was only 2%. So he bit the bullet and paid a pro to redo the site to make it user friendly (5K) and now his sales are up 20% a month with a conversion rate of about 50% into sales. Basically he found out that his website made it difficult to order and with the more professional design added creditability.

Re: Adwords Experiment

Porkchop

My site does very well from adwords and from its organic placement. I was talking specifically about the month of December, which is typically slow like this. I have no problems with adwords my conversion rate is around 5-10% and up to 50% on some of my keywords as well.

Thanks for the advice though I see you where trying to help that is why I love this forum
