Question

Advice For New Company

Does anyone have any advice on how to get passed that fact that we dont have many references. We (I have a partner) want to specialize in Home Additions. We also get remodeling work, (kitchens & Baths) but I cringe when a prospective client asks to see some of our completed home addition projects. We started in January 2008. I have 10 years of solid business managent, and my partner has 20 years of Project management.

Re: Advice For New Company

Your right, the first one is the hardest to get. My approach would be to play off your past experience. Probably more so your partners because of the project management. If you can't provide photos you might talk about some of the projects he managed, specially if they are locally prominent. The idea is to display that you are capable.

You'll be asked how long you've been in business. Better to say this is our first year than we been doing this 9 months.

Come to think of it, with your business management experience you probably know first hand the various pitfalls of operating without the proper structure. We talk everyday about the danger to the HO that hires a business that is not properly insured and finacially secure.

When you insist that they verify your insurance with your agent and suggest that they should for everyone they are considering for example. Chances are the other guys did not provide proof of insurance on the first visit, if they talked about it at all. If you do it will set you apart from them, that is the real key.

I'm sure more will chime in with great advice for you. Keep plugging because the second one will be a lot easier.

Good Luck
Dave

It is only a problem if you let it be. Turn the tables in your favor!
Why not discuss your experience that you and your partner have and implement company story pages in a book presentation relating to both. Show pictures of projects you did manage, get recommendations from people you did manage. " Mr. & Mrs. Homeowner, We have excellent expertise and managerial skills, which I find most homeowners like yourselves are seeking, Quality, customer service and the detail to attention that we pride ourselves on"

"Is this important to you, Communication & Quality?"

We are confident we will make you our best referral.

******Make sure you are organized, have pictures, a company presentation that is one of high value. Yes, including Insurance, pages geared towards customer service, products etc. will help Greatly***** I usually focus on Leading questions, Customer service and all the little details that seperate you from the competition when I build Company stories for my clients, so you should too.

This would make for a great post? Do you remember your very first job and your clients name?

Hey guys think about all the first in your life? First Steps? Bike,Date,Kiss,Prom,Car,House, Marriage,Baby,Office,Employee, Now your first job? Now let me think back because I have had some first in my life?

All jokes aside just tell the client the truth and then reread Remodel Buddy's advice. Priceless!! Good Luck
