Advice Needed
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and been reading this forum for some time and loving it ! I'm the owner of a small painting company ( 3 guys ) and have a 14 years of experience in residential and commercial repaints (primarily high end homes). Along with painting we do some carpentry, drywall, etc. In other words we are no strangers to home improvement business. A few months ago I've got my residential builder licence . I'm thinking to go into full scale home insurance repair ( claim handler ) business. I'm sure that we can do 90% of the claims ourselves and the other 10% we can cubcontract . I want to create a new construction company that can work exclusively for some insurance company . It could do good for both : more work for me and less money paid by insurance co. since one company ( would be me ) handle all the problems ( damage repairs, etc. ). A few years back we worked for the construction company that majority of the business was insurance claim handling. They did just fine. And that idea just pop-up in my head again. So, my questions to you guys are : 1. What whould you do in terms of getting into ins.company's claim handling business? 2. How do you talk and convince them to give a jobs exclusively for me ? 3. Whom would you call ( tried a couple of times and it's like talking to the brick wall ) ? I understand that it could be hard thing to do without right contact/connections or even a monetary reward but I'm very serious about that so it wouldn't be a problem for me. BTW, I live in SE Michigan. Thank you for any input. |

Re: Advice Needed
Where do you buy your commercial/bonding insurance now? You obviously have good reason to talk with that company, and I'm sure they will return your calls. (If you are using a broker, they will still be courteous enough to tell you where to turn.)
Where do your best clients (who will speak highly of you) get your insurance? Will they connect you and help you with an 'in'. Insurance brokers/companies on the sales side are very relationship oriented. I would start with my existing relationships and work my way in. |

Re: Advice Needed
Just what he said they are relationship minded. You could probally join some type of insurance construction providers association. Its all about networking, social events stuff like that. We dont do much insurance work so I really dont know. I would try joining a few associations though for that line of business.
