800 Vanity Numbers For Your Business

Anybody use them? I just setup my number through the local phone company. 7 cents a minute ouch, but i think overall a very good investment. IMO it helps with branding your company, and can easily be pointed to your regular landline number, or cell phone.

If you're looking to invest in a vanity number I highly suggest doing the research on this site.

On the left hand side of the site use the keyword lookup tool. Enter your email address with any keywords that your looking for, and in about 5 minutes you'll get a ton of results. When you receive the email you will notice some numbers will be in disconnect, or available right away. If they are available, I reccomend calling up your business phone carrier, and telling them the number you would like. He charges a $49 fee to aquire the number for you, but the phone company will do it for free.

On the other hand if you're looking to backorder a number, I've heard using this sites service is excellent.

My number was available right from his list 888-99-finish

Re: 800 Vanity Numbers For Your Business

Lawndart, you post sounds like spam.

I've been searching for months for a 800#, and have spent hours with no results. I found one service that wanted to charge me a monthly fee for the rental of a 800# they rent it for each area code). Since the cost was to high (over $1000) I gave up and decided that I would never have a cool 800#------until now.

That site rocks! Took about a minute to get a whole list of numbers. Thanks for the heads up.

My post sounds like spam now.

Re: 800 Vanity Numbers For Your Business

I've said the same thing for many years and haven't seen anything yet to change my opinion on this subject.

Vanity numbers are a benefit if you are advertising in a non-printed media - radio, tv, bill boards... anything where your target has to remember or right down your number.

Vanity numbers are of little to no benefit if you are advertising in printed media, postcards, mailers, door hangers, display ads... anything where the customer doesn't have to write down your number, since it is already written down for them, and actually they are a detriment. Myself and other consumers and probably you too get pissed off searching for the P, then the O, then the G, when reading somebodies vanity number off a printed piece if they don't include the actual number at the same time.

In printed media you should be doing something like

Call us
1-800-termites (340-4392)

so what's the difference? If a customer gets to the point he is reading your number to dial it in his phone what difference does your vanity number make?

Mike, when we get calls from our site signs I always as how they remembered the number, "I went home and got a pen", "my wife was driving so we turned around to write it down".

I want a 800# for three places, the back of my truck, the back of my trailer and on my site signs. Good point about having the dial number next to it.

Still debating between a couple, one is very close to the name of my web-site but I think people might get confused. I have a staff meeting Wednesday and will put a few out on the table to see how they feel.

This is the sole reason I purchased my vanity number. Easy to remember when driving by.

bingo Mike -

vanity numbers are good for branding on a topic - like 1-800-flowers. Unless you can spell out a word completely - I wouldn't go for it. You don't want someone trying to remember if it was 800-55flower, or 800-55flwers, or 800-5flowers, etc.

Re: 800 Vanity Numbers For Your Business

I hate these. They look cool but dialing them is a PITA for us old folks that are not used to text messeging(?) I time out often and then have to write down the balance of the number to re-dial. If it's not somebody that I NEED, I often go to the next number on my list.

BTW, most of my friends are older than myself and won't waste the time trying to figure it out.

IMHO, publish/present a straight number. Remember that our population is ageing.

If somebody really wants to do business with you they will get your number. Even raido and TV advertising in the examples I gave is reaching for effectiveness.

Somebody doing 80 down the highway passes you and blinks and sees 1-800-deckman and in a lather of excitement stabs the number into his cell phone, OH THANK GOD I FOUND A DECK BUILDER!!!!!!! Come on guys.

You should spend your marketing dollars to deal with the rule not the exception.

Vanity numbers - key word 'vanity' as in vanity of the owner how cool it is to have 1-800-poolman

Just my opinion.

I'm trying to by 1-800-flushme.

Thats everyone's problem, we make it to easy for customers to find us. Maybe we should remove all contact info from all of our marketing? If they really want to find us they can go from door to door?

doug, concentrate on getting a good number from the outset. I'm published, anyone can figure this out, my home ph# is 225-6700. It was my buisness# before cell phones. Now I have a crappy# but can't change it due to letterhead, et. al.

My business line is an old nextel #. My cell phone # would make a better business number ********* it spells "50 under 500" which was not on purpose, just what the "what does your phone number spell" spit out.

Our home phone is used to collect dust.

Our home phone spent a week or so in the rain and died, neither one of us miss it. A few still leave messages on the answering machine and it's the published#. Never can tell when some old relative will call to let you know that someone that you barely remember died.

Re: 800 Vanity Numbers For Your Business

I've had a Vanity # for about 20 years, and only because of Vanity, do I keep it in existence.

I get 90 % of the nation-wide telemarketers who call on that line.

People see your truck and job signs and may not remember your number, but they will remember your company name or logo if they have to look it up.

Yes. This could easily morph into a discussion of the bigger benefits and the compounding returns of just making your company easy to find versus the benefits microscopic marketing.
