Yes, it has annotation tools for snapping dimensions and writing notes and callouts, but it cannot do the kinds of drawings you are used to working with.
The Pro version comes with LayOut and you can do some cool stuff with it. I haven't played around with it much and haven't used it to actually layout a set of plans but I hope to have some time to try it out soon.

Re: Google Sketchup

reinforced concrete + micropile in sketchup for the same job as above.

I often tend to be a little overly optimistic with my labour estimates.

If it were not for drawing things like this in sketchup I would be underpricing my jobs more often and possibly working myself into bankruptcy

Working on something similar KC, just did a bathroom remodeling for a customer, now we will be doing basement and a wall unit in the family room. Did the design of wall unit in Sketchup, meeting with a customer this week to approve everything.

Here is a few more images of the job I did for a Solar Panel company. Its a Solar panel display... they will be having a show in a few weeks, so they asked to built them a display and they will be using this for installation training purposes.

Re: Google Sketchup

KC Remodeling,

I have been using Sketchup PRO for 5 years now building models and rendering life like images. If you ever need any design or rendering services please feel free to contact me. I have my Master's in Architecture and I am a Licensed General Contractor in Kansas and Missouri.

Although currently with the amount of kitchens, whole house remodels and custom home designs that I am picking up we will hopefully be switching to Autodesk Revit ( Building Information Modeling ). I used it for a couple years in school when it was more of a primitive program but now it is the most powerful building program out there.

My company's name is Ault Design + Construction. ( I am the design side )

Re: Google Sketchup

That actually might be helpful. I seem to be working on drawings less and less as of late. Had a couple that was 20K off for their budget but wanted me to go ahead and do some drawings.

I don't like investing too much time on a drawing since I typically do not charge for my drawings. I just don't feel that I can rightfully charge for a drawing as I have not had any formal training.

Send me a PM with your email address.

I charge for anything that directs MY time to THEIR job. Formal training or not, you are the one that knows how to draw it or use whatever software you use to draw it.

If THEY want to get it all drawn up for me, then that's fine with me...I'll only charge them half

Re: Google Sketchup

hi There,

I use sketch up to provide free concept drawings to clients, just because I can do a model up in under an hour (basic models). I then use the model to provide a free estimate, which I do up with autodesk quantity takeoff, I only use these for project feasability. I find once you get the hang of sketchup basics you can model simple projects extremely quickly and since they are to scale, estimating off them is very accurate.

Re: Google Sketchup

Upgraded to Sketchup Pro 2013, what a nice program for anyone in the construction industry. Love the new Sketchup Layout, they added a few nice useful features like Pattern Fill, etc

One word. Layout

Layout is a program that allows you to import scenes and produce great looking construction documents.

With Pro you get layout, like Cole said, you can do any type of construction document, especially with the new version they really hooked it up.
