RRP Scam ??????WTF Now?

Received this email today,and
I'm trying to figure out what this
person is really after.

Hello John.

I got your name and phone number from the EPA's lead website.

I am looking at going with another insurance carrier for my home in Norfolk and they want a lead free/safe paint certificate from a licensed lead ablator or inspector. The last time I had the home inspected was 1986 when I purchased it, and have been with the same insurance company since then, so I can't find the certificate from the original inspection at the time of purchase.

I have a small home, about 1800 sq ft, which was originally built in 1847.

What would be the fee for you to inspect my home, and when would you be able to perform the work?

I'm currently in the middle east and out of the country, so it's best to communicate via email, although I've left you a voice mail message with my cell: +1 713 775***x if this is something we need to discuss. Cell phone calls are really expensive for me while I'm travelling

Thanks and regards,

Lynda Meyer

Property Address:
xx ******x Road
Norfolk, CT 06058

What's would be their intention?
Anyone else receive anything like this?

Red Flags,
RRP cert.does not qualify for what she's asking.
The mention of being out of the country.
Knowing many of the phone #'s with this
prefix are suspicious.

Re: RRP Scam ??????WTF Now?

Google the phone number.
I usually do when I get an
out-of-area VM.
If it's a known scammer, you
probably aren't the first.

Re: RRP Scam ??????WTF Now?

I've gotten a few calls and e-mails trying to sell me test kits, but nothing as weird as that one. I guess that's a disadvantage of the EPA listing our certified firms and our info on the site.

Sounds VERY fishy. Whatever you do, don't call the number.

What's so fishy about it other than she is confused on the qualifications of the person she is contacting? She has your services confused is all.

Looks like [SPAM] to me.

I wouldn't waste my time on it, even if it was legit.
No mention of any request for actual work.
Just an inspection (which I don't think you are, an inspector,..lol) and the use of your certificate?? WTH *//

Agreed CCCo, looks like the makings of a new Nigerian"ish" e-mail scam in the fine tuning stages.

When I googled the #,it came up as
a cell in the Houston,Tx. area.
She has a NYC address,as well as
the one in the email,so that part sounds legit.
The phone #,not so legit.
Also on Google there is a list of #'s with this
prefix that are constantly being reported as
suspicious.

I was debating whether to reply at all, since
this area is full of high profile clients, and it could
lead to some nice work down the line.
I figured it would be a courtesy to at least
set her in the right direction.

Re: RRP Scam ??????WTF Now?

Well, I have a way around
those Nigerian scammers!

Attn: My Dear Good Friend

I am Mrs Patricia Morine Davidson, I am a US citizen, 51 years Old. I reside here in Cedar Hill Texas 75104. My residential address is as follows. 1273 Hayes St Cedar Hill Texas 7510, United States, am thinking of relocating since I am now rich. I am one of those that took part in the Compensation in Nigeria many years ago and they refused to pay me, I had paid over $20,000 while in the US, trying to get my payment all to no avail.

So I decided to travel down to Nigeria with all my compensation documents, And I was directed to meet Mr Rev Benson Smack, who is the member of COMPENSATION AWARD COMMITTEE, and I contacted him and he explained everything to me. He said whoever is contacting us through emails are fake.

He took me to the paying bank for the claim of my Compensation payment. Right now I am the most happiest woman on earth because I have received my compensation funds of $1,600,000.00 Moreover, Mr Rev Benson Smack, showed me the full information of those that are yet to receive their payments and I saw your name as one of the beneficiaries, and your email address, that is why I decided to email you to stop dealing with those people, they are not with your fund, they are only making money out of you. I will advise you to contact Mr. Benson Smack

You have to contact him directly on this information below.

COMPENSATION AWARD HOUSE
Name : Rev Benson Smack
Email: revbenson2010@secretarias.com
Phone: +234-808-702-9431

Sounds like a true Texan to me....

oldfrt,

You should be able to trace the IP from the email header to see where it originated from.

Maybe it's only in Denver then, but there are plenty of people who have discarded their land line phones and only have cell phones now, they are usually under 30 years old.

When they move they don't get a new cell phone number and will now have an area code different then the new area they live in.

I have plenty of customers like that.

If you haven't experienced it yet, you will.

Like I said, the only thing out of place is she is confused with the services she needs.

Thats being a nice guy, but if there isn't any $$$ in it for you, why bother?

Courtesy,...I'd forget about it on that one, and save it for a valued paying customer, just sayin.

What's to say she couldn't
become one?

If she's for real.

Mike, yes that's possible. But as a person who has lived in other locations, I always found it was WAY less confusing to get a local area code. Something as simple as trying to order food can be a problem without a local area code.

Tracing the email IP would help verify where it originated.

Re: RRP Scam ??????WTF Now?

On second thought, an e-mail reply wouldn't hurt anything.

Put the ball back in "her" court. Good points by all here.

I'm just so sick of sales calls I could spit. So I take many of these situations in with a LARGE grain of suspicion.

If it's a Texas AC, it might be legit.

But as CCCo says, it's pretty far from your area. Why YOU?

Should be....either Norfolk or Houston area, no? If it comes back from say San Fran, that's one more red flag.

Ha Ha, Depends when she sent it??

Right before she left, or while she was there (middle east), maybe it was while she was in Houston buying the cell phone (to send you an expensive voicemail), waiting at the airport??

Oh, the variables.
