Young Contractors

Despite some of the discussion here, I've been happy to find that there are more and more highly talented and extremely hard working young builders and contractors. I know many of them are here.

There's a new Instagram account dedicated to featuring them. Might be worth a follow: https://www.instagram.com/youngbuilderlife/

Re: Young Contractors

It's good to see young people starting up.

I started my business at 25.

I don't think I'd qualify as young but I started my business when I was 23.

Re: Young Contractors

I took over at 20 and bother was 24. Way too young and clueless. Amazed I didn't die, didn't get one of my workers killed and didn't get sued in the very beginning. 25 years later I still cringe at some of the memories.

Re: Young Contractors

35 here. I still think I'm young!

Started my business when I was 25 as a side job. Went full time when I was 33. Should have done it sooner but I'm glad I had time to get finances in order!

Re: Young Contractors

Bunch of old farts, its time to start wrapping you up in bubble wrap when you climb stairs and ladders

As young people go, it's always nice to see young and talented industry generation changes and for as long as they listen to the old farts in bubble wrap they will continue to grow, gain experience and learn the tricks-of-the-trade and most importantly run their businesses in an honorable way with pride and integrity.

Re: Young Contractors

I am proud of my nephew, he is 14 and his parents got him a miter saw and a saber saw, he has made a coffee table for their living room, using wood from an old pallet that he tore apart, he got a little creative and made everyone in the family a Christmas tree for Christmas, using old barn wood!!

Me started my first side projects at 19, started my business at 22, (didn't go to college so I started working on a framing crew soon after I turned 18) now I'm 33 years young

Re: Young Contractors

I'm glad you are seeing some young blood. I'm not. I see middle aged guys starting construction companies, not knowing what they are doing, being in business for a few years, then going bankrupt. They think contractors are making so much money. Then they learn.

On a side note, I wasn't old, until last year. All of a sudden it hit me. Fairly hard. Hoping this year, I grow a little younger. Or not, hire a couple decent guys and I'll be happy to spend more time in the office.
