Are You Noticing An Increasing Of Ceramic Tiles Instead Of Carpet Or Other Materials?

Hi to everybody!!
I have noticed lately an increasing number of clients asking for ceramic tiles installation instead of carpet, wood flooring, etc...
Can everybody tell your own experience?
Maybe ceramic tiles are cleaner, more hygienic and easier to clean that carpets...
Is this a new trend?
Please, everybody, post here!!!

Quite a bit of ceramic tile appearing on kitchen floors in the UK now. By and large I think I approve, although I wouldn't have it myself.

Our market is high end renovation, where ceramic and hardwood have traditionally been used except for bedrooms, but hardwood has taken a large part of the bedrooms also in the last 4 or 5 years. Even in more moderate price ranges, I think customers today expect more than "builders grade" carpet and sheet vinyl.

We do a lot of ceramic, and a lot less carpet now, but in my spes homes, we are trying stained concrete.

We do a lot of ceramic. Carpet attracts dirt and vermin.

Joasis, I've wondered, when your doing a stained floor, how do you deal with all the construction issues? Adhesive from the second floor deck, primer and glue from the plumber, chips from the cut nails holding blocks for bracing walls, spilled drinks ...?

I have done only one so far, with 2 more planned in a month or so. We onle do one level, so after dry in, plastic goes down, staining was last.

My ICF supplier lays plastic down after the slab is poured and it stays until they are ready to stain and seal...others I have talked to don't worry so much avout it if the staining will be earth tones or dark, since anything except spilled pop will just add character.

Carpet will always lead the industry in total sq footage.

but I have seen an increase in all hard surface over 10 years.

Agreed, same here. Laminate floors have boomed here in the last several years. Hardwood has always been strong but pre-finished has taken ALOT of market share from site finished lately. Builders are starting to go with it more and more. Tile is so-so. Mainly just bathrooms and foyers. But I am seeing alot more walls and showers being done. When radiant heating becomes more mainstream I think tile sales will increase.

We just finished a kitchen with 3/4 T&G....with Bona Kemi Traffic.

We are currently doing a kitchen and powder room.....3/4 T&G with oil-modified finish.

Steering people away from ceramic....to PORCELIN tile.

Bona makes some darn good products. I use their stains and finishes exclusively on the stairs and trim work that I do.

Yeah. I was skeptical about water-born finish coats until Bona. The traffic product is sweet! Gonna do my home with it.

The current trend here is carpets in B/Rms, tile or wood/laminates everyplace else.
