Write A Check Today And Pay It Off Later

Blatant rant! It seems about every 30-45 days, Chase (who I have a cc with) sends me a nice little letter in a statement-looking envelop. Included are about 10 checks that I can write against my card and use the money for whatever. Pay it off over time, at my current rate of 22+ %. I pay my card off every month so I don't care about the rate, but I thought all banks were hard up. We need to cut back on credit, they say. Banks have no money to lend, they say. We are going green and we help the environment, Chase says.

I've tried to get Chase to stop sending me the checks, nope. Just think of the money they are spending to send these out; the return must be significant. Anyone else getting plastered with this stuff? And don't even mention Capitol One.

I think every card company sends these out--I make a bee line for the shredder before the wife gets hold of 'em!

It is.

Some CC's are at 29.99% for those "convenience" checks.

IMHO, the rates mentioned are "unconscionable"....

I think if its like capital one we can teach them a lesson. If they are stolen you are not responsible... so drive down to the bad part of town and drop them. If everyone did that I bet they would stop sending checks. Yeah its a pain to deal with but just tell them "Well they are in my mailbox nearly every day, what did you expect to have happen? Someone was bound to steal them sooner or later"

...and when Capitol One - or whatever institution - has to make good on these bad checks, who pays?
- The "thief"
- The store
- The institution
- The consumers as a whole

Open those envelopes and stuff all of it back in the postage paid return envelope that comes with it and send it back.

I've got to open the envelopes as they look just like the statements. On the other hand, Verizon seems to change their statement envelop style every month and they make it look like junk mail. I think they do that on purpose so that a percentage of people throw it out. Bingo, late charges. Sneaky SOB's no wonder I trust no one!

I'd be a little ticked off about that rate - even though you do pay it off every month....all the more reason they should lower it.
22+% ? Like your the common deadbeat

The tears of Chuck Norris would supply enough liquidity to solve the credit crisis. Too bad he never cries.

Chuck Norris doesn't supply collateral, only collateral damage.

That is actually what the CC companies call people who pay off the balance in full every month. They make no money on you.

Except the 3-6% they charge merchans for accepting them. They make a lot more if you revolve, but if you don't, what do they care!

I used to do that with credit card offers. Tear the garbage into shreads then return it in their post paid envelopes.
