Working With US Remodelers Anyone?
I know a few of you have mentioned subbing for the box stores. I have received an offer from a company called US Remodelers that does the cabinet refacing for the HD stores. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with them good or bad.
I need work and it doesn't sound bad until I get my own company going. |

I never did like cabinet refacing idea. by the time you get new doors an drawers made an reface the box. you could of had a quality cabinet installed. I never could understand why they would want to polish a turd.
I know I wasn't much help. sorry........ |

Re: Working With US Remodelers Anyone?
min in our area refacing pays subs about 47.00 per opening. ave kit 31 openings=$ 1457.00 not bad for 3 days work. papa, quite often the cabinets we wrap are excellent boxes, fir ply backs-3/4" shelving-etc. and we've done a couple historic homes as well. don't knock it til u try it.

My dad retired a few years ago. 40 years as a carpenter. He started doing these on his own, and now makes some good money working 3 days a week.

This company is offering 12% of the contract. They say the average contract is 8500 -9000. How does that stack up to a per box rate?

Re: Working With US Remodelers Anyone?
thats more than cabinet work then. counters? backsplash? sink and appliance install? ask to talk to another installer. if their labor burden is 8500.00 then thats a retail sale of 35-40 thousand.

I say definitely give it a shot, - - bein' new in town, you need the work anyway, - - and even if you're just makin' a few bucks, - - it's a good opportunity to meet clients and push other work. You'll probably be busy as all hell in no time once they start word-of-mouthing you . . . Good luck, Paul!! Last edited by Tom R; 07-29-2006 at 08:52 PM. |

Re: Working With US Remodelers Anyone?
Thanks for the positive comment Tom,
I probably will give it a go. It sounds better than sitting on my A-S, waiting for the phone to ring. I figured what you said it will get my truck out working and it should drum up some new business. |

Ok let's compare the cost of a total remodel to the cost of a refacing. Obviously a refacing costs less, but the profit margin is usually much much higher. Same as bathroom liners. Get some quotes for bathroom relining and it will make your jaw drop, the profit margin is insane... but they get away with it because it's alot cheaper than a whole new bathroom. The answer is simply profit. There's money in them there polished turds. |
